Would you ever want to take a cruise on a ship this big?

You can tell that spring is coming - or that the half-term holidays arrived. Last week I was working out of our Amsterdam office for a couple of days. I had to change hotels because my favourite was full and this photo shows the reason why. Between our office building and the hotel is the Amsterdam cruise terminal and a 'big boat' was docked right outside. In fact it was so big that it stretched beyond the hotel in one direction and beyond our building in the other. The ship was the P&O Ventura which a colleague rushed off and 'googled' before declaring that it was the biggest of P&Os vessels and that it was - most likely - full of Brits. The office regulars say it's the biggest they can recall seeing since normally we look down on the ships' decks from our floor but this time it really wasn't far below us. The ships never get boring. There are a couple of guys who always grab the desks by the window - something to do with the German cruisers having a sauna on the top deck leading to occasional glances of naked holiday makers. We waved them off on their travels and tried not to look too closely at the lady wearing only a towel who seemed to have forgotten that she wasn't at sea yet and hadn't pulled the curtains. Whilst I like the idea of waking up in a different city every day, I know that I'm not cut out for being herded around with thousands of other people so cruising is definitely not for me. How about you? Does this look like paradise or hell on water?

Trust me - you are not herded on a cruise ship. You can do what you like and we never join the organised excursions. It's not our idea of fun to follow a guide holding up a board. However we don't like the bigger ships like the Ventura. The medium to smaller ships are more fun.

I did go on a package tour but believe me we are left there to fend for ourselves except for that dinner with the Captain and eating together at formal dinners.

If a 14 tiered or decked ship is considered big then I was on one cruising the Bahamas

I went to two cruises with my parents when I was not yet married, then we had one with my husband and that one was our last one. For my husband a cruise is like hell and I cannot say that I really appreciate. Anyway I would never take a cruise on a so big ship.

Ship this big scares me and reminds of the Titanic.... I would love to explore it but in the middle of the ocean.... I don't know.

I am not sure bigger is better in this case.

I am not sure a cruise ship full of Brits is my idea of paradise. I am English, but moved away some time ago. Sometimes, I have to say bigger is not always better

No, I like water but in it not on it. I have never been on a cruise but I have no desire either. I like my feet on dry land.

I would love to go on a cruise, but I think I would rather it were on a smaller boat! That is huge!

We had a cruise on the Queen Mary and it was great. You always know you're going to be getting off at the end of it all.

It could be either. I'd like to take a cruise someday, but I don't think I could handle the people or the structured "frivolity."

Our eyes do catch want it sees or get directed at some things by our inner self. Too big a crowd is not my cup of tea - but I like the Goldilock zone in almost everything - siva

For me, it is Paradise on water. Cruising in ships like these are like one time opportunities for everyone unless you are some super rich phandom. Travelling in ships like these would atleast be for 5-6 days and you can make so many new friends, eat lots and lots and different kinds of food. My opinion, if you get a chance to travel in it, PLEASE PROCEED.!

I don't think I'll ever go on a cruise ship. Although they are save - I can't picture myself being trapped in sea , even though theres plenty to do!

Not for all the tea in China could you get me onto one of these behemoth ships! I've nothing against travelling by ship, but when the ship's basically a floating hotel, count me out.

More like hell to be honest. I suffer from too many people in one place. Besides, the impossibility of running away from the crowds would drive me mad.
