Freedom 251 - First myLot Discussion

The phone looks like an iPhone and you can see that the original name is covered with some sort of sticker or paint.

A few days back, a company named Ringing Bells announced that they are going to sell the world's cheapest smartphone in India for just Rs. 251 (~$4). There was such a hype at the beginning and they opened the booking at 18th Feb, 2016. Eventually because of the price, everyone started to visit their website and it crashed. There were 6 lack hits/second. So, they stopped the booking and said they will continue later and so they did. They next day, I tried to book one and I did. After booking, the webpage said that they will send a confirmation email with the payment link in 2 days, but they never did. So I got frustrated and was searching all over the web about that phone. A few people who got their hands on that phone did an overview and a review. At that time, I noticed the top part of phone was somewhat not alright, so I paused the video and looked at it closely, there was white paint strip above the screen. The phone also, was exactly the same as the Adcom mobiles. The company claims that the system is running on android Lollipop 5.1. But their UI was very weird as all the icons seemed like an Apple device. The company said that that the cost of manufacturing one unit would be around Rs. 2K, but because of the sudsidy by Indian Government and Make in India, the cost came around Rs. 400. They said that the won't make any profit from that mobile but from some other product. One more thing, they also said that they will be delivering the pieces only in June or July as they have to build a manufacturing unit and then only produce it. I also spoke with my friends regarding this email issue and none of them have received or heard from Ringing Bells. Will they keep up their promise or as the name says, will they ring bells for us laughing??

That sounds a bit suspect to me - I hope you haven't lost any money on it. Btw- if you break your writing up into paragraphs it will be much easier to read. A solid block of text can be off-putting

@JaboUK, thanks for the piece of advice, I'll stick to it in the future. And no, I have not lost any money on it. But my friends do and they have filed a case against the company in a Consumer Court.

I just heard from my friend that they are planning to drop the plan of those mobiles. The company nearly collected Rs. 100 crores and is backing out. They have told the press that they will somehow return the money as soon as possible and for others who have not yet paid wont be getting any emails. PS - I don't know if it true or not. I just heard it through my friend. I am yet to do my research on it. Let us hope we get it _/\_

@adarshvsrinivasan You just have to slip some money or promise a share in the profit to government officials to get everything done... It didn't surprise me a bit that they managed it so well...

Yes, this is the first fraud with government support. They easily cheated every government official by saying it is made in India and sticking a national flag on the back.
