I would love to say war and peace but I'm yet to read it. The longest book I have read till now (from what I can remember) is 'The pillars of the earth' by Ken Follet. It had more than 800 pages and took a week and a half to complete. I was glued to it most of the time and even re-read some portions. Its an amazing book. You can definitely try it if you haven't already. What is the longest book you have read and how long did it take?

The longest book I have read is "Under the Dome", by Stephen King (1072 pages). I usually read long books in about one month, I only read during the evening.

@Scindhia Violence? They are not books for kids but there is more mystery and crime than violence in his books. I have read some that I really liked. "Under the Dome" is a science fiction novel. A small town in Maine (US) that is cut out from the rest of the world by an invisible barrier that drops from the sky.

More than 100 pages?!! Wow! Is it a horror story? I have never tried anything by Stephen King because I heard he packs a lot of violence in his books.

I cannot remember which book is the longest. I think I took a long time to read through War and Peace. That book was really unforgettable, and when you read it, you felt sad for the soldiers in the front line. Hard to imagine that people in city were dining and partying and talking about war in casual conversation.

Gosh, I will have to go through my book collection lol. I usually read novels that have 300-400 pages in it though. I do know the 8th Harry Potter book had 800 pages I believe, so that might have been my longest 1 to date.

@Scindhia Ever heard of Jodi Picoult? She is my favorite author! I sometimes enjoy Danielle Steele as well. I bounce around though with genres. I can also enjoy some guilty pleasures like the "50 shades of Grey" trilogy.

I think the longest book I read was a few Chinese kung fu novel series. Each series contain 4 books, and each book is about 300-400 pages, I guess. I think I finished reading the series (4 books) in less than a week, because it was just too exciting to read the story and I couldn't put the book down. Hence I only read those novels when I was in school holiday, so I could spend almost the whole day reading them. I don't think I have the luxury to read novels now, with two children and work at home, I don't think I can just keep reading.

@Scindhia I still read books at home, not novels anymore, just books about parenting or education. I don't get addicted to those books, and I can just leave them down when I finish a section, as those require me to think.

I'm reading the Harry Potter series and each book seems longer than the one before it. The Order of the Phoenix is the longest at 845 pages I think. It's very good and I still have about 300 pages to go.

@Scindhia not as far as I know. I've read all the books so far but it's one of those unusual times when I like the tv adaptation more than the books. He could easily drop at least one full length book from the series as there is way too much filler in one with no real character progression.

It is a little different--lots of long phrases and in-depth descriptions. But the story and characters draw you in so that you get used to the language.
