Random Word Post – breeches buoy

I find a random word by flipping through my 2003 The New Webster’s Concise Dictionary and write a quick – often silly – little post about it. # “breeches buoy – A life-saving apparatus consisting of canvas breeches attached to a life buoy and run upon a rope stretched from a ship to the shore or another ship.” There’s an illustration with this definition of basically a pair of shorts attached to a zip line. On one hand it makes sense, but couldn’t they have just used a basket? You’d think that would be safer for people who are unconscious or little kids.

Interesting, it amazes me how many words I have not heard of that is in the Dictionary. It is fun to look through the Dictionary and learn new words.
