I had a friend. We grew to really value our friendship. She'd call me at 9 am most mornings, knowing I'd most likely be in the tub. She'd tease me and josh with me the way sisters do when they are close. And yes, dear gal had terminal issues with her kidneys. I only got to walk with her for a few too short years. Christmas and Easter and birthdays. Too short. Gone now though she remains where it counts. My dear gal was a knitter. An artist with knitting needles. I have a stocking cap that is all blues and purples swirled around. I had a cap, anyway. I crammed it in a pocket on one of our last walks. And got to our car to find it had fallen out and just like that, gone. Not having that silly cap made me sad. On our last walk, determined to get around that perimeter, not feeling very well, I got to our last lap and hey!! The hat. Our dear gal's stocking cap sat alongside busy traffic, waiting for me. I laughed and giggled and grabbed the cap. Leah pup broke from her place by my side and danced in front of me. She knew my mood had lifted. She knew her human was happy. Or maybe she felt our dear lady's presence? She did love all animals after all.
