Blitz Spirit

During WW2 Britain was bombed pretty continuously during 1940 and 1941. At it's height London was being plastered nightly in an attempt to break the spirit of the civilian population. There's nothing exceptional about the British in this context, like everyone else, they hunkered down and adopted a defiant and resilient attitude. Today we see yet another horrific and cowardly bombing, this time in Brussels. No doubt this is the revenge for the Belgian Police's recent apprehension of one of the organisers of the last Paris shooting incident in which so many died. So here's a thought to those who would terrorise us, we won't be cowed by your bullying tactics. You may have your point to make but wholesale slaughter is not the way to achieve any progress on the matter. My great fear is that we might retaliate, that is a horror that I do not wish to consider as more deaths will only make matters worse. It's all too sad.

It is the way of things, however. A chain reaction of retaliations for the pride of our individual Country's and for the honor and memory of those lost. We fuel the fires of these cowards by giving them something more to be angry over. I am not saying we should "lay down and die" but war and more slaughter is not the answer, I agree.

And now the latest shootings in Orlando has the people queuing in line to donate blood - and in the middle of their humid, hot summer. More defiance and resilience it seems.

We certainly should retaliate but through spending more money on intelligence services to hopefully stop this happening. Terrorism and bombings won't alter British policy but it has had impacts elsewhere primarily, from what I remember, with regard to spanish iraq policy after madrid. They were stupid to do that and so quickly after the bombing.
