“Father, I lost my sins”

It is Black Saturday today, my fellow lotters, how was your Holy Week? Well, since Holy Wednesday, I and my sister went to church to do one of the sacraments of the church- confession. We were not able to do that until yesterday because the priest just stood up and left us, and did not come back because the procession of the 14 stations of the Cross was about to start. This morning though, I drove with my sister, and we sat near the office at the church; luckily, there was an available priest where we can confess our sins. Now, we renewed our faith to God through confession; which brings my thoughts when I was in my primary grades. A nun gave an anecdote to us Grade 2 pupils (We were to receive our first Holy Communion) and she said that we should tell our sins to the priest. She said that in order for us not to forget our sins, we can write them in a small sheet of paper and read them when it was our turn to confess. Her anecdote is: a pupil from another school did that but lost the sheet of paper, and when it was his turn to confess, he meekly told the priest, “Father, I lost my sins”. It gives me a laugh when I recall this one. Of course, we confess our sins now without writing them down. Have you lost your sins too?

We were told that if we do not remember them it means we are not sorry for what we did. You must repent for the confession cleans your sins.

yes, it is true, and that anecdote was during my primary school years yet. we can confess our sins directly to God too.

@ridingbet I believe that for the moment it is compulsory for the Catholics to confess to a Priest at least once a year.

@LadyDuck yes, and that is one of the 7 laws of the Church---"To confess our sins at least once a year"; another is "To contribute to the support of the church"; and yet another is "To fast and abstain on the days appointed". All these are required as penance and penitence every Holy Week.

but you can confess directly to God too, hija. I still prefer to do that with the priest, though we can confess every night with the act of contrition. That is always included in my evening prayers.

@ridingbet Yes, I think we can also confess directly to HIM. Honestly, I had only done confession with a priest once. And that was before I had my first Holy Communion when I was in Grade 3. When I was in HS, we had general absolution where we wrote our sins on a piece of paper and then burnt it. That's different from telling your sins to a priest, right? Hmmmm

Luckily , last 23rd since i know that we will be having the mass for Padre Pio in our chapel , i requested that the priest be fetched earlier so we can have confession . Thus , i had my confession along with the others . That boy is so funny to say it in shortcut , I lost my sins .

@SIMPLYD but you gave your sins to the priest when you confessed them, right? That is what it should be.

If we do not remember our sins then they would not be serious and hence need not be confessed

hahah! But you are no longer a kid, hijo. And if you write it in a sheet of paper, what if it accidentally falls and somebody will read it? then your sins will be his sins as well?

@Letranknight2015 then you can just deny those sins are yours.

Hehehe. I never write my sins in a paper but there were a lot of times that I would forget to tell some of my sins.

yes, sometimes I forget some of my sins, that is why when I queue before the priest, I have a self-examination of conscience and enumerate my sins in my mind, but I still forget some, so I ask pardon directly to God after my confession to the priest.
