Visiting London; one of the places you'll probably want to see is world famous Baker Street, home to the great detective Sherlock Holmes. Of course, Holmes and Watson do not exist, but the legend certainly lives on. Just along from the Tube station is the Sherlock Holmes Museum. Even Mrs Hudson is in on the act and has her own restaurant next door. Until 1930 Baker Street only numbered up to 85 and the museum, with its blue plaque stating 221b, is actually 239. When I worked at Baker St, 221 was the head office of a building society and a single, massive, building. At the main entrance to the Tube station, on Marylebone Road, is a statue of The Great Detective', who doesn't seem much like Sherlock.

A Denver suburb has a Sherlock-themed bar called Baker Street. It's pretty cool.

Basil Rathbone is my Sherlock. There is also the radio plays the BBC knocked out a few years back, they seem to stick much closer to the books

Sherlock Holmes is certainly an inspiration to many. No doubt, criminals read up his notes to see how to escape from the law.

I majored in English literature, but my mind still went straight to Gerry Rafferty's City To City album and the song, "Baker Street."

Yes, Baker St is not just linked to Sherlock. If you've seen the film The Bank Job, with Jason Statham, the real bank robbery took place about 100 yards up the road

I love how people take the least excuse and create a tourist attraction. Thanks for the info.
