He isn't mine yet but he was once yours You gave him things he'd always hoped for You taught him how to love and how to be loved Then you took flight into the skies above It wasn't anything you could do, wasn't your choice And though you're gone he remembers your voice He thinks of your laugh and still adores you You showed him love so pure and true I hope you know you're always on his mind And he will never forget you whether he is or isn't mine Just so you know that's something I'd never dream of He should forever remember your love If he does by chance become mine I promise I'll treat him as a treasure I'm happy to find I'll hold him close on days when he's sad I'll try to understand when he's angry or mad I'll do my best to make you feel proud And the things you taught him will always ring out I know you're gone but you'll always be there Inside his heart and everywhere Because you taught him something honest and true And mine or not, for that I thank you

This is simply beautiful Brit. I love it..it is such a unique perspective, not your typical. I love that you are in this poem, understanding that a possible partner is made up of what or who has come before and the fact that you are communicating that is awesome. Really great..love your writing my friend.. Have you though of self publish on Amazon or somewhere or just having fun?

Thank you ;) This was written for a friend who's fiancé passed of cancer. We were talking about the possibilities of dating but we knew he couldn't let her go yet. I wrote him this and loved it. I do self publish through Amazon. I have 2 books on there "The Mansion" and "Traveling Soldier" by Britney Hawthorne. Feel free to check then out :) I'm thinking of doing a book of poems soon as well :)

Very beautiful. If you could compose and sing and upload some video...it could have great effect.

@JustAGirlCalledBrit ..I think @TheHorse should be of some help. I merely love music. But he understands western music very well. :)

@vandana7 I do have some friends with whom I trade lyrics for melodies. One of us will write some lyrics or a melody, and the other will do whatever hasn't been done.
