Called to Deploy (a military poem)

It's a cold night as she cuddles her pillow to her chest Alone in her bed she's missing the one she loves best Thinking about the sound of his voice and taste of his lips Remembering each movement and feel of his hips She misses his arms around her and the touch of his hand Longs for his kiss and to live out their plans She states out the windows at the stars above And wonders if he's seeing them and thinking of her love Across the world is the hot desert sun He's wishing it wasn't into her arms he could run But bullets are flying and bombs exploding all around He falls to his knees and rolls across the ground The thoughts of her keep him fighting for his life Praying to return and make her his wife He looks to the clouds and calls out her name This is real war, not some video game In the morning she wakes and turns on the news Fire and death fill the screen's views She falls to her knees and cries out with fear Please don't let her loves name appear God hold him in your arms and bring him back home I don't want to live in a world with him gone She watches the screen and listens close Clinging to each little piece of found hopes He knows she'll be watching as his buddies' names are said She will be praying his name isn't amongst the dead He wants to call home but there isn't a way He is unsure when he will get to tell her he's okay He clutches her picture and sends kisses to the skies Praying God will send them to soften her cries Sending the angels to hold her until he's back again Then he curls up for another day to end It's been over a year as he's boarding the plane She's in a hall waiting to hear him say her name Surrounded by others awaiting their soldiers return Filled with longing that sets in a deep burn He steps off the plane and kisses American land Then marches inside and looks to where she stands This tour has ended and he's made it home with joy They'll hold each other until the next time he's called to deploy

I could feel the heartache and longing as I read your words.

:) I do my best to make it where people feel what I write. I'm contemplating putting together a book of my poems and publishing it.

Wonderfully vivid. You should write a poem from the soldier's view point as his love sleeps.

I can definitely do that. You mean like as she's sleeping next to him right?
