In The Potting Shed....

While visiting my Dad this weekend, he showed me his potting shed. He has made up, a little plant nursery in his shed, using a plastic cloche, and has several plants coming on...., including his, and my favourite, Daliahs.
He is 85 years old, and in quite frail health, due to heart problems. He is waiting to go in for heart valve replacement surgery.
This last year he had to have some of his garden turned back to lawn, as he can no longer manage, the work required to keep it as it was.... this made him quite depressed, until one of the workers at a garden centre he favours, suggested he uses pots instead,at first he turned his nose up at it and grumbled...that that's not the same ... but he has decided to give it a go.
He has got some pansy's out, and hyacinths, and is bringing on some other plants too. It has really improved his sprits, and is giving his garden some colour again.
Do you use pots in your garden. ?? Are you pleased with the results. ??

bless his heart, i can somewhat relate 's i'd always gardened'n the ground 'til 'it' hit 'n i was unable to do such. i'm quite jealous'f the vast buffet he's got goin' there! the primrose're jest beautiful :D
's fer the results'f doin' pots? i dunno if'n i'd e'en care to go back to the more traditional type'f gardenin' 'gain here. much easier to maintain 'n if'n somethin' aint workin' fer ya, ya jest holler't somebody to move the pot elsewhere, lol.
big hugs!!

@sueznewz2 indeed it does! makes what lil i've got here look most pitiful, lol. i fear i aint been able to get outdoors much fer some time 'n mostly the bulbs that were bloomin' 've now stopped. the winds ripped all the buds off the apple trees from what i can see, so'll not e'en get that show.

Yes, I like to use pots or troughs. We can't plant here. It is housing so we have to go by their rules. I am pleased with the results if I take care of them. Put in drainage rocks and use plant food.

I think it is a great option and I want to use pots to grow vegetables. I am glad he tired it, it is hard to give up something one loves and this way he won't have to.

@sueznewz2 - Ms Susan - Flowers are pretty and fun, too, - for a few weeks or so. Photos (such as yours) are "funner" because they, too, are pretty - and they last and last and last.

They are so colorful and beautiful..I am sure it is even more beautiful when you actually see them all together. I love plants and have flower pots all around my house. It makes the garden look green and also makes the place cool since the weather is sunny and hot all through the year..

I used to have gardens before we moved to an apartment. I love gardening, too. Now I have some plants in pots on our deck, but little sun gets in, so they don't do well, A few months ago I planted avocado seed just to see if they would sprout. They wont grow as they should in pots, but I love eeing something green on the deck. It's nice that your dad has found a way to keep gardening, good luck to him with with the heart transplant.
