Mmmm - Cookie!

As an artist, sometimes I like to try and create things as a test of my skills. So in addition to creating my own original characters, I might try to interpret other known characters into crochet. I do not sell these or try to infringe on licenses or copyrights, but I do get a feeling of satisfaction when the results look how they are supposed to. It boosts my confidence to know I can create something to look just the way I want it to. This cookie monster pleasantly surprised me when he was instantly recognizable as the character he was supposed to represent. However he is only a tiny finger puppet (I'm calling it a finger muppet).

@madcrochetlab Of course you couldn't sell the SS character's, but as good as you are, you can probably come up with your own and start an etsy account or something.

@Carmelanirel2 Thank you again for the sweet compliment. :) I appreciate it. I don't use Etsy because they charge an additional fee on top of the paypal fees and the things I make are custom and I can't make and sell them fast enough to make it worth it. I do occasionally sell commissioned work from my own site though - all anyone has to do is contact me. But to be honest, I much rather enjoy creating my characters and posts and stories that go along with them rather than focusing on selling them. Perhaps I will collect some into a book and sell them that way. That's what I would like to do with my Maddy doll. :)

No, I don't sell them. I do not own the license to the character of Cookie Monster and I would not want to infringe on Sesame Street's property. But thank you so much for the compliments. I have some other SS characters I've made and may post pics of in time.

@kevin1877uk Exactly! LOL. Because I primarily make dolls and not clothing items, I'm often left with a lot of unused yarn - I just did a clean out of my craft room and the local donation center got a lot of good stuff from me! But it had to be done as I could barely get in my craft room any more!

Thank you for appreciating the color! It took me a long time to find a yarn that would work best for him and then I had to buy a whole skein of it just to make a tiny finger puppet! But I was determined! LOL

agree. it's about challenging yourself to give life to your own interpretation. "finger muppet" is good. cookie monster was one of my favorite sesame street characters.

Yes, that's exactly it. You get it. And many cartoonists do the same from time to time, as they have fun interpreting other cartoonist's characters their own way. I know some who have collaborated this way - Berke Breathed and Bill Watterson, for example. In those cases, it is fair use and neither is trying to claim ownership of the other's character or benefit monetarily from it. I love when artists team up like that! :) And yes, Cookie Monster is a favorite. I also loved Oscar the Grouch, but then I may have been a grumpy kid growing up. LOL

He's really cute. I think it's actually more difficult to create something recognisable like that when it's really tiny. You've done a great job.

Thank you! I will not sell these items as they are characters that belong to Sesame Street. I did in fact, contact them to inquire about getting a cottage license to sell some small handmades but they do not grant them and i respect their decision. I appreciate the compliment though. :)
