Celebrity Worship

I used to follow a particular celebrity on twitter but when he tweeted about how he was biting into a taco or some other mundane thing it made me decide to unfollow him. My own life is not so boring that I need to know the tiniest details and up-to-the-minute actions of a celebrity such as that they are taking a bite of food. There are one or two who I follow because their tweets are intelligent and interesting interspersed with some fun and interesting tweets, but for the most part I've found I'm not interested in following celebrities on any platform really. Some celebrities' accounts are not even handled by them but by assistants. And some platforms stress the celebrities who use their products but that is never a reason I would join or use a product. Do you think we make too much of them?

I don't adore much about celebrities. I like their craft but I don't worship them. It is plain entertainment for me.

What gets me is there are people who do the exact same things, just in a different environment and nobody makes such a fuss about them. Take theatre actors,. Those people who act in plays on a live stage, instead of tv screen. Thousands or more people come to see them perform each day. They even have admirers. But I've never seen theatre fans, trample each other for an autograph or anything. Same with those small town "local celebrities". But you take those same people and put them on a television or some film, then all that changes. Must be some magic power in that movie screen.

Yes, there truly must be. Sometimes I'm not sure how much of the overgrown ego is due to the PR people they are surrounded with or the fans. But you are right, there is definitely a noticeable difference!

I do not follow any celebrities. I think my life is busy enough without the need to feel that I have to know how they live. Anyway they are not interested in my life, so why should I care about what they do or eat or sleep.

Yup. And it's a bit creepy if anyone wants to know that much detail about someone else, famous or not.

I find that to be true also and then there are even unofficial pages run by other people about the celebrities. I guess I just find other things to be more interesting.
