I See You Are Wearing a Shirt

There are a few people in my life who say things I don't know how to respond to. I'm not sure why but maybe they think they are giving me a compliment when they say something to me like, "Your hair is getting long," or, "Your shoes look new." These really are not compliments, but just observations, so I don't want to reply with a thank you. I may as well just reply to them, "I see you remembered to put on a shirt today." It makes me feel awkward because I think if they thought my hair looked nice they would say so or if they liked my shoes they would say so, but they don't. They just make an observation out loud and I never know what to say to that. Maybe I should just say, "Thanks for noticing?"

I don't think anyone has ever said anything like that to me. I think I'd be at a total loss as to how to respond if they did.

Oh good! Well, not good that it happens to you too, but good for me that I'm not alone when I feel at a loss when it does happen. Thank you for chiming in. :)

Some poor folk are incapable of thinking before they open their (stoopid) mouth.
