What makes a marriage and family?

marriage and family life are so common to us but i have realized that few people spend time to think about what makes marriage distinct from other relationships other than obvious functional differences. so guys, i need so help here..thanks

Marriage is more than a life long commitment and we have to give and take, but some still have an attitude that others give and they just take without a conscience - siva

thank you for your feed back, are you trying to say marriage and family depend on mutual sharing or something of that sort?

@doyleked Mutual sharing of love and affection including sacrificing mentality for the welfare of the family. There should be no more "me" and "you", should be "us" - siva

@Shiva49 that's very informative. most people have this mentality of individualism in marriage but what about family? is it any different?

It's a relationship of mutual love to live life and afterlife along, it's not like you get divorced multiple times and get Married again. It's all about feelings for someone.
