. I really prefer to work in the kitchen all by myself but my husband kept insisting to give him something to do.. So I told him that maybe he can peel and chop up veggies for me .. I turned my back on him to start cleaning and preparing the meat in the sink. All of a sudden, I could hear him sniffling and sighing and saying.. "Oh my God!" .. and he continued to sigh and moan.. I got a bit worried so I turned around and saw his tears running down his cheeks.. I've never seen him in so much tears before.. Not even when his mother passed away.. "What's wrong?", I asked.. "Why are you crying?"... "THIS ONION!! ..OH MY GOD!!".. he screamed.. "Darling it's only onion. Don't cry.. It's not hurting while it's being chopped. Onions are used to it".. I joked ..ahahah! .. He gave me a wet dirty look.. heheh! Anyway, if he was wearing his eye glasses his eyes would have had some protection . And I should have washed the onions first before I gave it to him to chop..Some people put peeled onion in the freezer for about half an hour before they chop it so it won't sting their eyes.. What about you? Do you also cry when you peel and chop onions?.lol Bess

He won't volunteer ever again to chop the onions . I just keep my face away from the onions when i slice them . So, putting it at the freezer 30 minutes before chopping them will do the trick . That's nice to know . Thank you for the information ..

There are some remedies so you will not cry while peeling off onions, like putting them for 10 minutes in the fridge then slice them while it is still cold. I wear eyeglasses but still I shed tears when I peel and slice an onion

@epiffanie But the juices still invade our eyes, unless you use goggles and there are no spaces where the juice comes in to create tears on your eye.

@Shiva49 I think the most loving thing a man can do for his wife is to help her around the home ..So good for you!

@epiffanie I don't do the main cooking but help out in other ways in the kitchen and able to do enough to survive. We mostly chip in to help each other with household work - siva

I get all teary when I chop onions. But I love the smell of onions, leeks, and garlic. Does holding a kitchen match in your mouth really make onions not make you "cry"?

Some people who rarely chop onions wipe their eyes with their hands which have bits of onion on them and make the stinging worse. I feel sorry for your husband.
