Carol Burnett

An interesting discussion from @Drosophila about Gone With the Wind reminded me of the Carol Burnett Show spoof of that film titled "Went With the Wind." Does anyone remember that sketch or the show?

Next to the Muppet Show, the Carol Burnett show was my absolute favorite show to watch growing up! I thought that her and the entire cast were the funniest people I've ever seen! I thought Tim Conway was absolutely hilarious! God, I miss that show!

@puddleglum That was a great sketch! Wow, it's been years since I've last seen the show, yet I can remember them almost like I watched them yesterday! Are you currently watching the episodes? Are they available on Netflix or somewhere like that, or are you just watching clips on YouTube?

@moffittjc A lot of clips are on YouTube. I guess I'll have to buy them, if I want to see more. TV Land used to show it. I saw a few of the movie spoofs and family sketches on YouTube. Those are my favorite.

It definitely was a great show. Yes, Tim Conway was funny. He even made his fellow cast members laugh.

That woman was seriously funny. All the cast had a great time making that show too. I like when Tim did a part as an old man serving gasoline. Did you see that one?

@puddleglum Carol was saying (on a tv show) that in that scene you gave as a picture the curtain thing was a last minute change. The other actors had not seen it till they walked out on the set. So smiles were real. lol

I think so. I know I saw several where he played an old man and he shuffled his feet, so it looked like he was barely moving. Tim did some crazy stuff!

@Bluedoll That's awesome. I would have kept the costumes a secret every time after that! Some of Bob Mackie's costumes for that show were hilarious.

I get hysterical every time I think about the dress made from the curtains with the rod still in, it is too funny.

I know Carol looked like she wanted to laugh when she came down the stairs in that dress, but if I were in that costume, I wouldn't have been able to stop laughing.

I loved Carol Burnett - tug on my ear for you - and the end song with her bucket and mop!

I love that show--especially the movie spoofs and "the Family" sketches. The guests were always fun, too. I'm so glad we had this time together.

Vivian was certainly iconic in that role. I think Carol Burnett agreed. I think she only "spoofed" the actresses she truly admired. Besides Gone with the Wind, she also did sketches based on classic films Mildred Pierce (Joan Crawford) and the Heiress (Olivia de Havilland).

Yes! I think it's a funny change. They keep saying it during the skit. A character will say "Went with the Wind," then dramatic, epic music plays.

That's the first I've seen that sketch. She was always a good comedienne. Enjoyed the spoof.

I don't remember it, but I probably have seen it-here they used to rerun her show quite often, that and Leave it to Beaver.

Leave it to Beaver was funny for wholesome humor. Carol Burnett would probably be termed slapstick.

The show, yes. I really like comedy, and there could be real fun on that show. But to be honest, exaggerated humor to me isn't all that funny. Subtle isn't either. Skillful thrusts of humor well-placed are.

I like a little bit of many different kinds of humor. It really depends on my mood at the time. I'm not a fan of a lot of today's sitcoms, though.
