#1 on my Top 10 Songs by The Cure was not a hit. Hell, it wasn't even released as a single, and there are undoubtedly songs that hardcore fans will tell you are better. Still, "From the Edge of the Deep Green Sea," out of all the Cure songs I've heard (and I've heard a lot of them,) this is my favorite. I really have no idea why, either. It just resonated with me the first time I heard it. From my point of view, the lyrics are heartbreaking, but so are a lot of other Cure tune's. The guitar riffs sound emotional, but again, such is the case with a lot of their songs. This is the one that stuck with me, however, the Cure song I play the most. Therefore, as my favorite Cure tune, it's #1. This Top 10 Songs thing was started by @JohnRoberts, with heavy participation by myself and @FourWalls. Feel free to pick a band for your own Top 10. After all, the more the merrier!

Yeah, it's not really hit material, so if you didn't own the album, you more than likely wouldn't have heard it.

I am not familiar with this song. What struck me about the long intro which is sorta slow and deliberate setting mood is I felt a new age quality there. That may sound insulting to some injecting an Enya quality into the Cure but it's not negative. A haunting song that was not top of the pops material.

It is on the Wish album, which has the pop hits "High" and "Friday I'm in Love." If they were on Top of the Pops, they more than likely would have played those. And that opening does set the mood.

That is a pretty deep song. And, reading the comments on You Tube, apparently you're not alone in being overwhelmed by the song and its lyrics.

Thanks. I was expecting a few "THAT'S your #1?" comments. And maybe I might get one or two still, but it's good to know I'm not alone.
