Having some granddaughter time

I had the best day yesterday. My daughter, daughter in law , granddaughter and I went to Cranston, Rhode Island to buyy her first communion dress. She will be making her First Communion on the Saturday before mother's day in May.
My daughter is her god-mother and offered to pay for the dress. So we went to church early and then drove to Cranston. My daughter in law and granddaughter met us at a restaurant for lunch and then we all went to the shop.
Oh my goodness, it was like Kleinfelds but for smaller dresses. It was so much fun. Syd (my granddaughter) likes everything so she tried on 6 dresses before she found the perfect one. She loved it right away and so did we and she didn't want to try on any more.
After that it was a tiara, a veil, shoes, gloves and tights. She was just beaming when we left the site.
Her mom had a wake to attend in Westerly, R.I. and we took Syd with us Of course we had to stop on the way home (it was an hour and a half drive) for frozen yogurt!!
It was a wonderful girls day out and we were all exhausted by the time we were all back home!! I hope everyone had a great weekend too!!

It was and that dress is very much in the style that my daughter Kasey had for her wedding dress.

They wear it to church later in the month when they crown the statue of Mary but she probably won't wear it again.

she looks like'n angel :D i'm so glad ya gals got to spend all the time together - priceless moments jest packed with memories. 's the norm, 'twas a quiet weekend here...'xcept fer the howlin' winds, lol.

lol She really is a nice little girl and they loved her at the store because she will try on anything. They said some kids come in and say no, no , no before they even try things on.

@BelleStarr that's wonderful :D like i said, mine'd still be there 'n prolly tryin' to argue with her momma that she wanted 4-5 'n refuse to settle'n jest the one. 'course, i'm a cranky granny'n don't put'p with that sorta nonsense - but her momma does'n she knows't, lol.

She looks beautiful with this white dress. I still remember mine, I was so happy to wear my beautiful white dress for the First Communion. I think that now in Italy the girls must all wear the same long white dress, just because they must to be all equal for that day.

For Confirmation they kids now wear identical robes but for First Communion I don't know any church in our area that makes the kids dress the same. It is a good idea I suppose so you can't tell who can afford an expensive dress and who can not.

@BelleStarr I believe that it was decided just to avoid those who cannot afford an expensive dress to feel different. I remember, when I was a kid, some girls wore very expensive and beautiful dresses.

@BelleStarr Joe's Place is in Cranston, a stone's throw from where I live. It's where most of the locals here go for First Communion dresses and when I worked at the church, when the parents would ask me where they could go to begin their shopping for their dresses, I always pointed them in that direction.

Yes they literally had hundreds at this shop. She is very excited and she really does like to dress up.

@BelleStarr I used to sew for my granddaughter when she was little, and loved to see her all dressed up, but she is a teenager now, and too far away for me to even buy clothes for her.
