Sometimes I wish I could be a kid again

Some days I find it really difficult to suck up everything I'm feeling and thinking and be an adult, but I do it, because that's just part of being an adult. Some days I find myself at my emotional breaking point, but having to shove it all down so I can do what I need to do. I look at my son and envy his ability to be able to kick, scream, and shout when he's upset, because he isn't at that point where people expect him to just deal with everything he's feeling. Kids often times don't realize how great they really have it. When you're a kid you think being an adult means having it all together, having money, staying up late, not having to listen to anyone, and getting to be the boss. You don't realize at that age how much more goes along with being an adult. If I had realized then what I do now I would have clung onto my childhood for as long as I could. I didn't have the stress I have now. It was just simple, at that time I thought having to deal with my brother and having to go to school was the worst thing in the world. I didn't realize things only got much more stressful. As a kid you don't realize that your parents do have a boss, if they work they have to deal with people, and they have to nod and take other peoples crap. In the real world you don't get a bunch of chances to redeem yourself like you do when you're a child. Being an adult is working with people you don't like with a smile on your face even though you'd like to punch them. I have always been mature for the most part, I mean I have moments where I laugh at stupid things or where I'll do or say something stupid, but for the most part I've always just silently dealt with things, even when I want to scream. At a young age I understood that just because you don't like someone doesn't mean you get to be mean to them. You suck it up and you deal with it or you face the consequences of your actions. I think that's one thing I learned from having an older brother, it was better to just take it than to get myself in more trouble. I was a quiet kid, and I found myself mostly observing from a distance and learning from others mistakes, and of course I made my own too, but there were times where watching and listening definitely benefited me. I remember how stressful I found school at times, but as an adult I often find myself missing the days when I thought little things were stressful. I am normally a very level headed person, but I also tend to get lost in my own brain. I think things through to the point of exhaustion, I'm cautious and I hate when things change. I eventually adapt, but the thought of it really gets to me. I often just find myself longing to be a kid again and not having the worries I do now. Ah, to be a kid again lol. I guess you should be careful what you wish for.

@celticeagle Maybe I will let go a bit as I get older, but I guess we'll see. I goof around with my boyfriend and son, and a few of my close friends, but around everyone else I'm relatively serious. I have two personalities, one I reserve for people I'm extremely close to, and one I reserve for those I'm not. They're both me, but they're different parts of me.

If it works for you, go with it. I can't see myself acting like a kid, I never really have lol, not the way most people do anyway. Even as a kid I was more mature than a lot of adults I know/knew.

@sissy15 .....I'm rather silly with my family. That's about all. More like you but not more mature, just shy and an observer. Later in life I let go a bit more.

@LdeL0318 I agree, only at the time it doesn't always feel easy until you have something to compare it to.

That was the best feeling ever lol, I think that's what I miss most about my childhood. Not having to worry about money.

I could have written this post. It's like you're me, but I don't have a son to envy. I just have to envy the child I once was and wonder why I was so quick to want to be grow'd up.

Yeah, in some ways I get to kind of live vicariously through my son. I love watching him play, I sometimes wish I could get down and play the way he does, but I don't find those kinds of things appealing anymore, I just wish I were young enough to still find it appealing. I wish I could go back and tell my younger self to enjoy it, because life now isn't the way I envisioned it to be.

There comes a time in our life when we'd wish we could move back the time to that which brought us back when we had happy memories or had no worries like our childhood days.
