Do you think people who have hallucinations are crazy or dangerous? Stop and think about your answer for a moment before reading on. . .. … …. ….. …... ….... …..... …...... …....... I hallucinate on a decently regular basis and I'd imagine from my posts on here you wouldn't judge me as dangerous or too crazy (haha). I've had hallucinations since I was 4 years old and only in the last year have they finally gotten under decent control. I take medication each day that keeps them away for the most part. During times when I'm very stressed out though, they manage to pop up. I will see black figures that look like people out of the corner of my eye. Or I will be in a crowd and think I see people I know, when really I'm looking at a stranger. As you can guess – this is pretty discombobulating. Over time, I've gotten used to living with the hallucinations. I know the shadowy figures aren't real and am no longer afraid of them. As far as the ones that happen in large crowds...I always take a friend with me to large venues like a concert or baseball game. My friends know about my issues and help me stay grounded if I'm struggling. For me, the 'dangerous' hallucinations are when I hear voices and they are only a danger to me. I've had two episodes of hearing voices telling me to kill myself. Both times I've admitted myself to the hospital right away. They give me a large dose of medication and the voices settle down in a day or so. It sucks to live with these hallucinations, but I remind myself I could be much worse off. Some people who experience them don't know that they are not real and end up living in fear of them Most of mine have just become a slightly annoying part of my life.

i think you should consult a psychologist and address your hallucination problems to him/her. having hallucinations predisposes a person into having a psychiatric problem. i learned that from my subject on Psychiatric Nursing when i was still studying

Glad to hear that you're already getting the support that you need from the psychologist and the psychiatrist! Recovery takes time but the fact that you're stepping up to tackle the problem shows that you're one step closer to stepping out of this. Be patient, and one day you'll conquer it. All the best!

I don't believe that people who have visual and auditory hallucinations are inherently dangerous, nor do I feel that they're "crazy." It's unfortunate that our society places such stigma on being diagnosed with mental illnesses of any type by using labels like that. It keeps a lot of people from being willing to come forward and ask for the help they need, which in my opinion just makes things worse because those with untreated mental illnesses can behave unpredictably and irrationally at times. I can't imagine what it must be like to constantly have to question your very reality due to experiences like that. It makes me glad that medications that can keep the hallucinations to a minimum are available and accessible to you, and that your support network is able to help you with the issues you have in large crowds. I think of all the different types you've described, the auditory ones would scare me the most, especially if I had no idea what was going on.

That is really good that you can deal with the hallucinations.
