The Revolutionary War - How Do You Feel About It?

"War is hell." These words are attributed to General William Tecumseh Sherman. And, except for the scriptural misconception of what hell is, these words are spot on. War is not fun. It seldom accomplishes anything. Even if it does, it hardly seems the best tool to use for the job. Most of us would agree. Yet, when it comes to our ancestors, some of us beam, "My ancestor was in the Revolutionary War!" People are funny. I have one or two who were in that war. I have no interest in it. Yes, one can join organizations that take delight in the matter, such as the DAR and the SAR (Daughters and Sons of the American Revolution, successively). But did you ever stop to think about the war's nature? Yes, England was a little heavy handed in what it was doing. Its king at the time was the crazy George III, after all. But keep in mind the "Founding Fathers" claimed they were acting along Biblical lines. It's even been claimed the Constitution was based on the Bible. The scriptures say, at Romans 13:1,2 that people should be obedient to the superior [governmental] authorities, since God allows these to exist [for now]. If one takes a stand against them, they are taking a stand against the arrangement of God. So the Revolutionary War was, in actuality, not based on Biblical principles. It was actually a rebellion against the superior authorities. And the war involved the taking of life by humans not acting under the direction of God. You can define that. So, although I realize my ancestors knew no better, and so do not judge them unworthy of everlasting life, neither to I rejoice or find pleasure in their accomplishments.

I have no opinion either way about the Revolutionary war but I do suppose it would have happened at one time or another. I think we are right now having a rebellion against our authorities in what is happening in our voting process.

In fact, it's a most curious thing. And you are correct. You see, the scriptures say that (for now) it is not God who is in control of this earth, but the devil. And he knows the 10 commandments were given strictly to the Jews. So he saw to it a government was established in rebellion that followed a scriptural precedent incorrectly, thus invalidating it.

@Marcyaz I know most people will. However, an examination of the scriptures is helpful for verification. Feelings may be contrary to the scriptures.
