I Think Blondes Get a Bad Wrap

I was born a natural blonde while my sister was a brunette. She has always been a little dingy and I have teased her for it all our lives. The other day I was going to Target and talking to her on my car phone. When I got there I got out of the car and started to the store while still talking to her. I was walking toward a man who was looking at me weird and looking around. I told her what a weird look he gave me, almost like I was crazy. She didn't answer me and then I realized my phone was still in my purse, I hadn't transferred it from the car phone to my cell so in reality, I was talking to the air on my way into the store. I called her and told her that her dinginess was rubbing off on me and told her what happened. I then left Target and she was giving me directions on how to get to Walmart. I finally got down there and was waiting for the light to change. Told her I would talk to her later and proceeded to turn my car off instead of the phone. I was sitting at the light, it changed and my car was off.' DUH, I called her back and told her what I had done and that I can never talk to her on the phone while I was driving again because she was turning me as dingy as she has always been. I told her she should have been born blonde and me brunette but, after that day, I'm not so sure now. Have you been given a bad wrap for being a blonde?

I know, its weird how they do that isn't it, some how the color of your hair makes a difference in peoples minds as to how smart or dingy you are. Not at all true.

I think it happens to all of us. I'm not a stupid person, but there are times when I do stupid things and act weird.

I don't know when that all started but being blonde sure seems to make a difference here.

I was born blonde and stayed that way until my early twenties, then I became a bit darker. So I was never the target of bad blonde jokes.

I was blonde until I had my first child and then I got a little darker after each one but they still teased me because I still have blonde, it just always looks streaked now.

I was blond as a little kid, but I don't think folks thought I was dingy. I was too serious. But I have "turned the wrong thing off" when I was distracted. Not my car, though.

@cintol As a college teacher, I can say honestly that I make no such assumptions (about blondes). But I do notice that there are some things that make me assume someone will be dingy or less than smart.

No one thought of me like that when I was little either, it was when I started growing up but I was much smarter than they all joked about.

That's too funny! I've done some things that could have been dubbed as "blonde moments" too but I attribute that to my senior moments, regardless of what age they occur at!

I never thought of them as senior moments but since I am one of those too I think I will refer to them as that also. lol

How amusing, I could just imagine the look on that chap's face. I do these sort of things sometimes and I've never been blonde - just old

@cintol , I was born blond, platinum, and then my hair went to ash blond and I didn't like it, so I coloured it red...that is when my friends said they always knew I was a red head undercover (I have a wee bit of a temper :D) then I coloured it the dark brown it is now. No one ever dared to make a blond joke to my face :D .

I bet not! lol No one makes comments on mine anymore either but I feel I had to earn the credit I deserved myself on that issue.

I wonder how this belief came to be - that blondes do silly things?

Know what? Many of our Filipina girls would want their hair blonde while some Westerners envy Asians (Filipinas mostly) who have black hair. What a confusing world LOL!
