LAGOS (AFP) - The Nigeria Football League (NFL) has announced that the 2006/07 premier season will now begin on January 6. The kick-off date of the league has been changed several times with the latest shift due to a row involving two major telecommunications companies over the title sponsorship of the competition. The NFL first announced November 25 as the start of the new season only to later change it to December 19. Officials said they remain committed to ensuring the 20-club Nigerian top division runs about the same time with the leagues in Europe and as such the coming season will also be an abridged tournament. Ocean Boys won the league tournament in September and will therefore represent Nigeria in next year's CAF Champions League, alongside runners-up Nasarawa United.
