Handout - What Would You Do?

Tonight we were at Quik Trip, which is a convenince store and gas station combined, and as we got out of our car, a unkept man approached us and said that he and his wife had just come from another city which is only 4 hours away. He also said that their car had broken down and it cost them $400 to fix it, that a church had given them money for gasoline, they had lived in their car for the past 2 days, and that they were hungry and needed money for some McDonald's or something. Would you have helped this man out, or would you have been suspicious of his story, thinking that he wanted money for drugs/alcohol?

If I could afford the spare money, I would get them something to eat from the store. Or I would give them a few dollars. Their story might be true, we never know when we might need help from a stranger. I would probably be suspicious of his story, but would still help if I could.

It's so hard to tell who is lying or not not days, and I would hate to think that I didn't help a fellow man who was in true need of it. I would probably have offered to buy him something to eat from inside of the convenince store, but I don't think I would have actually given him money.
