Lonesome Ride

Slowly she rode'p 'pon that town, Lights'f lanterns castin' eery shadows all 'round. A lonesome wind'n hoofbeats kicked 'round the dust, Dreadin' what needed done, but knew such 'twas a must. Too tired to fret o'er her frightful sight, She wearily made'er way from the darkness'f the night. Hearin' the laughter 'n music echoin' from down the lane, Whisperin' to herself, "let this not be'n vain." 's her horse carried her closer to the town's only saloon, The clouds they parted 'n revealed a blood red moon. Sadness swept o'er 's a night owl screeched by, Would the deed to be done e'er justify? I know, don't quit my day job, eh? sigh...

Certainly an atmosphere-setter. It almost sounds like the deed (justified or not) might be a nefarious one. Loved it.

@CarolDM bless yer heart. sometimes these thingies 're jest too private 'n we keep 'em to ourselves. most likely folks figure if'n ya published such, 't could help others 's they try to get through all their pains from such a loss. to me, that'd be a personal choice 'n whate'er helps ya heal yer heart best 't can.
