Writer's Guild Tonight

If there's one place I want to promote for every writer it's to get involved in a writer's club of some kind. The information you glean is invaluable. Every meeting is different and somebody always has the answer you're looking for. Tonight was my once a month Writer's Guild meeting. In the past couple months I've invited two people - one writing a book - so far unpublished, and one authored two books and another about to come out. Both are very good friends. One I met at church, one I met at work, both are devout Christians, and one is helping me with Scarred. Tonight was the first time in many years belonging to the writer's group that I actually felt offended by the interaction, and I don't offend easily. And it makes me wonder about my Christianity. First of all, this writer's group is not oriented to a specific group of people meaning Christian or non-Christian - it's for everyone. I am fully of the opinion that in the situation tonight, that in your face, shove it down your throat Christianity did not belong in that meeting. Not everyone is of the same mindset and should not be made to feel guilty because they aren't. Yet that is how it came off. I am not ashamed of Jesus Christ. I am not ashamed of being a Christian. I was ashamed of being in a force fed situation tonight. You just can't do that to people. God gave us his Word and it is up to us what we do with it. Jesus did tell us we are to GO into all the world and preach the gospel. I'm okay with that. But it needs to be everybody's choice whether they accept. Our job - our only job as Christians is to present the Gospel. It is the Holy Spirit's job to bring conviction and acceptance. Ours is not to beat them over the head with the gospel until they accept. Jesus said I stand at the door and knock, IF anyone will hear my voice and open the door THEN I will come in and sup with him and he with me. Jesus is not beating down the door to gain entrance. He is leaving the decision in yours and my hands whether to accept or not. There is a time and place for everything, but to sit there and tell someone that if there is going to be profanity in your book you will not read it, well it's going too far. Be silent. It's your choice whether you read it or not. We all have opinions on things, and voicing those opinions is a good thing. Do it in a proper way in a proper setting. To state something in such a way that it becomes stuck in your throat and you're choking on it, is overstated. I love my writer's group. I had hoped to get something read tonight that I'm having trouble with and wanted feedback, but with the way things went, that just didn't happen. So hopefully next month I can get feedback on it. I hope your day went well. Thanks for reading.

I like the diverseness of the group. There is so much talent and most of the members are authors so have a lot to give. One of the gals who read what she wrote is having trouble finding a publisher and agent. She just needs to find the right combination. Her story was great!

I don't know if I would join a group on Facebook, but being in person is so much more fun.

I never force the way I feel about God on anyone. I will tell them how I feel and leave it at that.

sad it wasn't a good evening, and I agree, it wasn't the time or place for that sort of thing

I agree, some things, just do not need to be said. No need to stir the pudding.

Indeed.. there's nothing more off-putting to a non-believer than a person insisting they should believe
