Weight loss surgery

Have you ever considered having weight loss surgery? Do you have any family and/or friends who have undergone weight loss surgery? I had the vertical sleeve gastrectomy procedure on January 4, 2016. I just hit my 4 month post op yesterday. I have lost 57 pounds since surgery and have lost a total of 75 since starting this process in September of last year. Some people consider weight loss surgery as the "easy way out", but I can assure anyone that it is far from easy. In fact this is one of the most emotionally challenging things I have ever been through. Food was my comfort and I am a self proclaimed food addict. I can still eat of course, but not like I used to. The amount of food I can eat is around 3 ounces or so. I used to eat until I felt my tummy was going to pop and then keep going. I was a binge eater and ate to soothe myself when I was depressed. I ate when I was happy too. I am very thankful that I was able to get this surgery and I am working my butt off to keep motivated and continue on my journey toward health. It is simply a tool and I have to be committed or else I can easily slip back into my old ways. I am open for any questions anyone may have.

If you don't mind, before the surgery what is your weight and what is your weight now. Do you exercise also this time and how about your intakes?

Hi there! I don't mind at all. I started the process at my highest weight which was 315 pounds. I lost a little on my own so the day I saw the surgeon about 4 months before my surgery I was down to 290.5 pounds. The day of surgery I was 273 pounds and now, 4 month out of surgery I weigh 216 pounds. I do exercise yes and I can not eat a whole lot at one time but I focus on very low/no carbohydrates and I avoid sugar. I also focus on protein and fresh veggies.

@apickett I see, just continue your exercise and avoid eating carbo and sweets so that you can reach the goal you want. I saw a program on the tv about this, a doctor who operates some obese persons and helps them that they can obtain their goal.

There are a lot of people who disagree with the surgery but for me it was either do it or not get healthy as I had tried numerous different ways of eating and dieting. I had so many health problems due to the obesity that I decided to get surgery. I'm happy with my decision.

That's excellent for those who have the willpower to do so.

I've seen people who have undergone corrective surgery because some part of them don't help them at all. There are people I personally know who have not undergone weight loss surgery but went to the gym and work out...

Its great that some people only need to work out and eat healthy to lose weight. I unfortunately couldn't do it so I had to go with surgery.
