How to overcome Aquaphobia?

Aquaphobia - Fear Of Water

Way back my childhood time, I really want to swim in the sea. I love the color of the sea especially during noon time and sunset. Being curious, I tried to swim, and experienced cramps on my feet. Because of that I was drowned twice when I was 10 and 15 years old. Thank God a good heart villager saved me. I promise not to try for the third time. And Now, The place where I stayed is beachfront at the same time each building has swimming pool. For me it's some kind of nightmare if the water reaches my shoulder level. Whenever there is a beach or pool party, my presence was there but I only set on the cottage and read a book. Some of my friends offers to teach me how to swim. But even in the bathtub I'm afraid of a certain level of water. What should I do? I really want to learn how to swim and get a chance to include in a group picture in the sea or even in the swimming pool.

I can relate. I never had a near-drowning experience, but I took lessons at a YWCA pool when I was little. To this day, the smell of chlorine makes my heart race. At my age, I have no intentions of learning how to swim. Hope I don't regret it one day.

Hi Vicki, Thanks for your comment. It was 5 months ago since i posted this thread. But, I'm happy to announce that i was able to overcome my aquaphobia. My instructor is a great motivator and teach me basic exercise before the actual swimming in the pool. I just started last July 2016 and now swimming is part of my workout. Age is just a number and there's no harm on trying.

You can take swimming lessons and teach you. Many times fear overcomes us and then we will never do it.

Yes. A friend of mine is a swimming instructor. He approached me about this matter. So many times I make plans to enroll in His lesson, take note it's for free :-) But, it's almost 2 months, until now I did not make the first step. :-(
