The Mid-Autumn Festival falls on the 15th of the eighth lunar month. It is the 2nd most important traditional festival. This festival is celebrated by Chinese people. When this festival starts, all family members will come back home in order to get together and eat delicious food prepared and drink beer. They talk about their life, work and study.Proposing toasts to each other and expressing their best wishes. In china, round means “reunion”or “get together”.In that day, people will enjoy the round moon and eat moon cake.Moon cakes is a dessert, which have 3 inches in diameter and 1.5 inches in thickness, they are made of melon seeds, lotus seeds and almonds. And then, making them as the shape of moon and steaming them. When we finish steaming them,we always take it to our yard with fruits. So that we can enjoy the moon while eating moon cakes. There is a traditional story like that.In the ancient time, there are 9 suns in the sky and they burnt fiercely,so that crops scorched and river dried and people died of hunger and thirst. There is a warrior who are a archer named Houyi. He uses hit own bow and arrows, shooting down 8 suns. The Queen Mother of the West rewards him with a pill of elixir. If this medicine is eaten by one person,he would ascend to the heaven and become immortal. If this medicine is shared by two people, they will never die.So that Houyi decided to eat it with his wife named Chang’er on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month. On that day,the moon is full. But their secret was heard by a wicked and merciless person named Fengmeng,Feng decided to stole it,Feng’s decision was found by Chang’er.So that Chang swallowed the medicine in a hurry and chose to stay on the moon, which nearest planet to the earth.Houyi look up at moon and missed his wife.So that people do the same thing to express their feeling to the absent ones on that day.
