In the Philippines, circumcision is a tradition. You go to the health centers and you can see boys age 10 to 13 piling up to be circumcised. The new generation circumcision now is through minor operations of doctors unlike when we were young that we do the traditional way of chewing young guava leaves. A doctor that I interviewed said he already circumcised 32,000 boys in his life. That is lot of boys that benefit in his expertise. Summer season is the time for circumcision because in the next month, children will again enter school. I just don't know why boys need undergo circumcision.

It is for hygienic purposes. Uncircumcised men were said to have stinkier you know what than circumcised ones. It is also for religious purposes. Jews believe you will burn in hell if you are not circumcised. In our culture the purpose is to make the boy more manly and less softer which is obviously a myth.

the first one should be the consideration, its just so frustrating that the second premise is what we believe

It's because it's a rite of passage, every country or culture has some form of rite of passage and it just so happened that circumcision is what is practiced for males in our country, similar to ear piercing for females. I am not saying it is right or wrong, simply how things are and majority wants to be like the rest

I asked my sister who's a doctor about that and her explanation convinced me. There's no actual need for men to be circumcised actually as long as they know how to clean themselves. Dirt built up could cause some infection and she told me some men are just lazy to do that. I know in some countries they go to a doctor for thorough cleaning because they don't go through circumcision.

@ilocosboy It's because it has become part of our culture.

that is supposed to be, but you know, in our country, if we are not circumcise, we are being humiliated, sometimes its a matter of manhood.

It is absolute personal choice. Unless the boy wants circumcision is not a legal duty. There are benefits but without that also boys can remain safe.

@ilocosboy Which country is this? You should make a written application to Amnesty International.

In my opinion it should be non obligatory as it is a very personal decision. Here in India circumcision is voluntary and completely up to the individual. Apart from the muslim community it's pretty much non mandatory for everyone. Although there are still some nerve wrecking practices being carried on like Female Genital Mutilation in the muslim community. Anything from sharp glass objects to blades are used in the process which in my opinion are not only brutal and inhuman but also unecessary.
