30 years is a long time to hold a grudge

Sometimes we tend to hold on to hurts, pains and grudges, they do us no good, but we have trouble letting them go. I recently found out a family member has been carrying around an old grudge toward me for over 30 years, wow! The sad part is some of what they say happened, I don't believe actually did, or they misinterpreted the situation. I've said I'm sorry, but that doesn't seem to be good enough. We finally decided to agree on disagreeing. I've decided it's probably best if we keep our distance for now, because we aren't healthy for eachother at this time. Have you ever held a grudge for that long?

No I never have but I also found out that a family member had imagined a bunch of hurts that I am guilty of. Sometimes it is just best to let it go and not worry about what they think, that is how I am moving forward.

@lilnana1111 I guess we really have no choice or we will make ourselves crazy with the upset.

That I could understand, I'm sure I'd hold a grudge for a long time over that too. I'm sorry for your loss.

Wow that's a long grudge for not expressing it. I have held grudges for a long time but the person doesn't mean anything to me so I don't care anymore.

I can't believe he waited 30 before he told me, what a waste of time and energy.

The worst part was that they never said anything to you. what good is it to be mad if the person doesn't know??

no, i easily forgive. although i may never forget but i tend to let bad things go and move on. thats not very healthy to live with a grudge (specially to a family member) for 30yrs..

I can't even hold my anger for more than a day at the most. Grudges are not my thing. I tend to let go of negativity

My grudges last 20 minutes. I don't like holding a grudge at all. That's too bad about your family member holding a grudge that long---hopefully he or she can come around

Most people tell you when they ate mad or hurt with you, not wait 30 years, at least that's my thinking. If I would have know way back when, we could have resolved it then.
