Local vs imported

A friend of my mine, after a delivering a talk in a seminar, had a sudden pain in his stomach that he could hardly stand up. Some friends immediately brought him to the hospital which is owned by a big local university. After being examined at the Emergency Room of the hospital, my friend was diagnosed to have appendicitis which was about to rupture. The doctor/surgeon, who was also a friend of my friend, told my friend "Jess, your appendix is about to rupture and I have to open you up immediately, but don't you worry, I'll put you on local anesthesia". Despite being in pain, my friend still managed to inject some humor by saying "Doc, if you need to operate on me and put me on anesthesia, why don't you use imported instead of the local?" LOL!

I didn't know that AP surgery can be done using local anaesthesia. He's funny! Please introduce him to me.

You're lucky! He's a widower now LOL! Something is wrong with my internet provider. The internet won't move in my PC and took me long to log in to my Mac so I'll just water my plants in a while :) BTW, he took up law too and is a clerk-of-court. He used to teach English in the university :)

OMG, I couldn't imagine just a local anesthesia for that type of surgery but at least he had a sense of humor about it all. Hope he's doing better now.

@sunrisefan Wow, I would need to be put to sleep for that surgery, your friend is brave. Glad he is ok now.

I think the doctor knew that a local anesthesia would suffice for the operation and I guess the pain was still bearable that's why my friend could still joke around. He's fine now, Ms. Cindy :)

I like the kind of people that put humor in a situation. I woke up coming out of knee surgery while they were wheeling me to the ICU and I was in a lot of pain but as I was getting rolled and we turned a corner I went "weeeh" while sobbing from pain. Haha

@sunrisefan I still have complications with it because it was an injury that I dealt with for many years and no one wanted to fix it. But yeah at least it was an interesting experieince.

I try to keep the balance of both worlds. I prefer to support locla economy and also buy imported when i really need it.

well, ain't that nice at least the tension kinda wears off a little. I wonder what made his appendix rupture?

Yes, I think it somehow lessened the tension hahaha! I really don't know why appendix ruptures :)

local anesthesia is the anesthesia is injected on or around the site. i don't think a local anesthesia is used for the procedure. local anesthesia at the right lower quadrant for appendectomy, but the appendix is inside the torso; hence, a regional anesthesia should be used.

Don't know what type of anesthesia was really used but that's how my friend told me when I met him after the operation :)
