For you it may be small but it made my day

There he was at the gate all equipped. I waited for this day since the last six months. Yes six months. We could not get a coconut plucker to pluck our coconuts. They are not available these days. After going from pillar to post calling up every owner of coconut gardens around I finally got this guy. It was a great day. He did a good job. Has anything small for us but big for you that has happened with you lately?

Yes, every time that my niece comes to visit, is a small thing, but a big gift for me. Tomorrow she comes and I also receive friends to celebrate my husband birthday.

There are two coconut trees at my aunt's place. They don't get a plucker either. They use the coconut when they drop and there's this "don't go too close to the tree, one might fall on you" thing going around. We've a good laugh out of it sometimes.

I have about 8 trees. Actually it is cheaper if they fall down as pluckers are prohibitively expensive these days but the fear that they will fall on our head is always there (lol)

@Nishkriti There are many -curries, desserts and dry dishes. Some dry the coconuts and get oil.

I have never seen a real coconut ..... in fact I've never seen a coconut tree. That just sounds so wonderful to me. So coconuts don't fall off these trees when they are ripe?

They do fall off but it is dangerous to move around. They hurt.

@rebelann They are quite large - as large as a football and sometimes a bit smaller.

We selll them after keeping some for us. They remain fresh for atleast a month if they are not shelled. We normally shell, scrape a couple and freeze the stuff.

When a job is well done there cannot be a happier feeling than what you went through. 2 acres is a pretty large area. How do you cope?

That is a long time to wait for someone to pluck your coconuts. Do the coconuts stay on the tree without spoiling?

They fall off though not all as they mature at different times. The fallen ones are good too.

@allknowing You just need to be careful not to be underneath when the coconuts fall.

I always thought watching the movies that you just climbed up and the coconuts fell out of the tree but now I see that is not so you have to hire a coconut plucker and there are not many available. When my son comes on an airplane to visit or drives here it is a big thing to me but might be small to others.

A son coming to visit is indeed a big thing. These days children forget their parents.

Yes, like cleaning our roof because it has plenty of dried leaves. We can't clean that so we hire someone to do it, even that is a very small deed, we are happy that someone did it for us because we can't do it.
