Have you ever experienced fires in your home or very close by you?

Where I used to live they used to have fires all the time and it was close to my building. Yesterday I thought I smelled smoke and sure enough I did. There was a fire not too far from where I live. They told people to close their windows.

Several. The worst experience for me was when I was 13, living in Daytona Beach. A pesticide extermination plant across the street from where we lived caught fire and burned to the ground. My grandparents' old home, which my aunt (their daughter) lived in, also burned to the ground, but I didn't actually witness that fire.

I haven't tried. If it is, things will be differently. I would rather have my possessions stolen by a thief than house being burned down. Since there is nothing left after the fire incident.

@Hannihar I agree. But then, it is lighter problem for the first statement.

@Shavkat I would not want either to happen. If someone tried to steal from me I would love to catch the person and make sure they do not get away with it. I have a smoke detector and hope that helps. I had a gas leak here and now have something for that too. That was horrible.

Yes. Just a couple of years ago the house behind us caught fire. :( I remember my dog woke me up barking around 2 in the morning, and when I got up she ran to the kitchen. I could see flames shooting out one of the upstairs windows.

@Hannihar No. It was all contained in the neighbor's house.

That's pretty scary... I experienced that maybe two or three times. I remembered when a fire broke near the university where I work. It was a home nearby. I watched the flames consume the house and the smoke where so thick.

In December of 2014, we were awaken by a loud voice shouting "get out of the house!' When we look out of the window, we saw our sister's house on fire. And it's just a few steps away from my parents. I ran there without thinking how i was dressed and rescued my nephew. The house was burned to ashes with nothing left.

@toniganzon I am sorry. Was your nephew the only survivor. I am sorry if that was hard to write.

Never had a fire close by but there are lots of forest fires during the summer in other areas further away.

@Freelanzer We also have forest fires that were set on purpose but every summer without fail there was a fire very close to us where we used to live.

There's this one time. We were at work and it was late at night like 11 pm or something. Then one of my co-worker shouted "hey guys check this out!", so from the window we saw one of the buildings outside just a few blocks away from us caught fire. The fire was blazing! I know it was terrible for those who live or work in that building but a part of me tells me the fire looked beautiful and I just want to take a selfie near the scene. I know I'm a bad person.

@flipitup You are not a bad person, but, a fire or any other disaster is not fun. We had an earthquake here and I felt things moving. I was at a course in a bomb shelter. I was nervous to go home because I did not want to see a mess and my cat not alive. Things were fine there. It was very scary. I never experienced that before.
