We Live in the Wild

United States

When my daughter & family moved here a few months ago they came from a borough of New York City. They were used to lots of noise (traffic, sirens, and blaring horns) and typical city living. I live in a quiet country area of Pennsylvania surrounded by trees, grass, cornfields, farms and plenty of nature. The other day I asked my 10 year old grandson how he likes living here compared to NY and he responsed "I love living in the wild" I had to laugh because he made it sound like we live off the grid but I guess compared to his noisy city life it is completely opposite. Kids do say the funniest things.....

I want off the grid and to use solar but not live in the woods without anything. I am going to do it and be 10 minutes from the city. I love listening to children talk, they have wonderful imaginations.

haha, sound like you live among the lions and bears! City is good for many things, but you cannot have a restful night if you live near a main road. My window faces the junction, and it is always very busy. After so many years, the background noise does not bother me anymore, unless the vehicles honk very loudly.

That is very funny my friend. He is a smart little fellow though. I also would prefer the wild.

I guess compared to the busy life of New York City, that could feel like "the wilds" to a young person.

They notice things too. Have they mentioned how quiet it is? When my grandsons lived close to me, I took them all sorts of places. We had a favorite Chinese restaurant. They were the only kids that we ever saw there. It wasn't a kid type restaurant. They boys said it was their favorite. They liked the table cloths, the cloth napkins, the china and the paintings on the walls. But what they mentioned that they like best, was that is was clean and quiet.

Whatever he believes, it is great that he loves living there! I hope that is as 'wild' as it ever gets for him. :)

My college campus was almost 150 miles from the nearest city. It was practically in the middle of nowhere but it was a beautiful place and we learnt to appreciate the silence and peace almost reluctantly in the beginning. However, after freshmen year when we went back to our cities for term break we realized what we were missing in these fast city lifestyles, 2 weeks back i graduated from that campus and honestly it took me an entire week to get used to city life with all the noise, heat, population and pollution. How I wish i could relive the last three years !

It's probably just not what he's used to. It's still pretty funny I'll admit. It made me smile. They can say the funniest things.

I think I understand him completely, my husband's sister used to live in Yonkers and it was night and day from our residence here in Connecticut.

That's quite a comical response, especially since you probably think that he lived in the wild and is now in the calm!

Ha! he probably heard a family member call it that in a joke- and they just repeat things- it can be very funny sometimes.
