Does non-stop rain create depression?

May 21, 2016 12:36am CST
In summer months, many people expect rainfall. But when rainfall occurs for a week at a stretch without stop does it create depression. During British rule in India, many British officials were given punishment postings to Cherrapunjee. The reason was that Cherrapunjee used to have non-stop rain for 2 to 3 months those days. Those who used to get those postings, few of them started committing suicide. It makes people mad, not to see the son for 60 to 70 days at a stretch. Sometimes excessive rain brings depression in mind.

I have experienced excessive rain and sun but I knew the weather has to change and it did. I think we need the variety in life - siva

Thanks Sivaji, yes there should be a balance in respect of weather. At least the sun can be tolerated. But non-stop rain for 10 days leads to frustration and sickness. Especially in areas where there are water-logging problems.

Perhaps it was the long separation from their family and not the weather that was causing depression among the British officials?

Thanks Josefina for the comments. Fact was thought British officials were posted in different parts of India. In other parts there were different seasons, summer, winter, monsoon. In Cherrapunjee there was only 1 season, only rain rain rain.

maybe it depends in the mood, if you're heartbroken, maybe it is.

Yes, Ilocosboy for the comments. Excessive sun does not help. Excessive rain does not help.

For me rain season is better than summer. I don't like hot weather. Not that I hate summer but I just prefer rainy season. Sleeping is better during rainy days. If it will rain continuously in 7 days or so it is okay as long as it will not bring flood. It also save electricity for not using a fan or air-conditioning.

Thanks rommel for the reply. In your place it does not lead to water logging. In Kolkata there is a lot of waterlogging. so people are worried when it rains too much.
