Sean Penn a total Flop movie at Cannes Movie Festival

I am a Movie fanatic and if ever i could, I would attend the Cannes movie festival just to see the Buzz of Artists and the contrasts of the critic's. It must be a wonderful days work . . . laying misfortune and blame on Producers for their lack of artistic abilities - But then, who am I to judge, just a movie fanatic! Our daily newspaper reminded us this morning that one of our home-grown honeys is the Best Looking woman at the Cannes Movie Festival . . . makes any South Africa very proud of the GIRL and that might just be where the fame and fortune on the new movie stops dead in its tracks. On the actual movie scene in Cannes, it is said that the movie staring Javier Bardem and Charlize Theron, being Penn's first directing effort in a decade, is a total misfire. This Sean Penn's movie "the Last Face" had come up with a note "his worst movie" Maybe Sean should dwallow a happy pill and get out of the business of trying to make light of all the plight in Sudan and other oppressed countries in his silly movies. I wonder if this whole FLOP has anything to do with the fact that Charlize and Penn split up recently and the romance has gone south? I always say, when you start mixing business with pleasure - you are doomed to fail! How come they dont know that principle yet? A quote from one of the reviewers: Owen Glieberman ~ " If you really take the message of the movie to heart, it just forces you to acknowledge that the story - to quote Humphrey Bogart "doesn’t amount to a hill of beans." " Some of the other movies that are looking promising to me are: Money Moments - directed by Jody Foster and starring George Clooney, Julia Roberts. Julieta, staring Emma Suárez as Julieta. Neon Demon, Elle Fanning in a horror movie - this one I shall give a miss. I, Daniel Blake - this I will definitely watch when its released. and last but not lest . . Finding Dory! So what are your likes and dislikes on the movie scene at the moment and where have you noticed something with potential? Drop us a line! My photo is of our Daily Paper Front Page - Beeld "Charlize Theron"

I hear about Money Moments o the radio film program, it sounds good. Apparently there is also a new film by Pedro Almodovar, I really like his work.

@Inlemay Oh thanks, you know what it's like when you are listening to the radio in the kitchen, you turn the tap on and miss a bit!

I heard Sean Penn interviewed recently and have to say that he impressed me as quite the sheltered and privileged little idiot. Maybe he was just having a bad day.

That Penn is. He is an embittered individual constantly condemning the US while reaping all the benefits. His bitterness stems from his Communist father Leo Penn being blacklisted in the 50s.

@JohnRoberts I didn't know that. I think in his shoes, I'd have chip on my shoulders as well. But I would not go one step further (I hope anyway) and conclude the unjust suffering of a father makes a saint of the child, who is then due all consideration of what society has to offer.

shame the Penn movie got a bad reception - he has done some great movies, even his more obscure works

@Inlemay Cannes critics have panned movies that later did well before

She was in the movie - Mothers Day - not her best role, but nice to have a glimpse of her as a supporting actress. I loved her the most in Pretty Woman.

If you followed Cannes this year then you must have heard about an India movie ''Raman raghav 2.0''.The main lead Nawazuddin Siddiqui got standing ovation for his role in that movie at cannes and you should check it once...it looks promising...

I really don't know what's new right now. I have seen a couple good movies, but there isn't a lot that interests me. I love movies, it's just been disappointing what they call a good movie. It seems values have lowered a lot with the last couple generations coming forward. I do find it interesting that Jody Foster is directing.

I agree. A good movie should be a good story, proper language and real features. I don't do swearing nor violence.

@Inlemay I do my best to stay away from swearing and it depends on the violence. There are some movies that you just can't get away from it. Take The Passion for instance.

I have not watched any of the new movies that have come out recently. My husband and I have netflix and amazon prime and watch movies from there. It has been 6 months or so since we went to the movie theater.

these movies will be out soon - they need to get their ratings and restrictions passed first then they should hit the public screen

I am not at all a fan of Sean Penn, and never understood the fuss about him. His acting is mediocre at best, his politics bizarre and anti-American, and from all reports he's just not a very nice person.

I am quite surprised how many USA people have commented on this stating their dislike for the man and his work. I have never liked him, so maybe there was some good truth in how I felt.

I don't follow the new movies at all. I prefer to watch the "old stuff" when I am in the mood for movies.

I love movies - I go to the cinema at least 2 a month to see new releases as well as those that just dont look good on a home movie screen. But I watch the others at home - 3 a week or more - in the evenings

I didn't realize sean penn and charlize were ever an item. I don't get to watch as many grown up movies as I once did because I have a hard time finding the time. I usually watch more family and kid movies. As fleeting as time is, my kids are going to be grown before I know it & then, sadly, I'll be lonely and have all sorts of time to watch movies again. (boy, that got morose all of a sudden) :-) I do love to watch movies too though

I have not read the Cannes Festival news, yet. I would definitely watch the Jody Foster movie when it's release.
