Top 10 Favorite James Bond Theme Songs #4 - "Skyfall"

We stay in England for #4 in my Top 10 Favorite James Bond Theme Songs series, and the 2012, 23rd Bond film, Skyfall.
"Skyfall" was performed by Adele, and she did what the Bond powers that be wanted: recapturing the Shirley Bassey style (Bassey performed three Bond Theme's.) Adele was a great choice: a ten-time Grammy Winner, and, for "Skyfall," an Academy Award Winner.
It worked. "Skyfall" was an international success, hitting #1 in multiple countries, #2 in the UK, and peaking at #8 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Being a newer Bond theme, "Skyfall" might seem ranked a bit high in this series, having leapfrogged over more established Bond themes. I love it because it does harken back to the old Bond theme days of yore. Plus, Adele is totally awesome on this one.

Many Bond songs especially in recent Brosnan/Dalton years were not memorable even if performed by a big name. You are right Adele is a throw back to Shirley Bassey style which I think the producers want. The recent Bind pictures were a move toward Connery style and away from the hokum that began with Roger Moore.

I agree. I don't remember a lot of the later themes, even though I've watched the films more than once.

Adele has a certain I am going to do my own thing to her. You can always kind of see people for who they are when noise is made about them and who does not like bond. That is what I do on my weekends, Ya right.

I disliked this song and realy hated the film too - she sounds like she is singing 'sky foal' and the lyrics imply a threat from the sky rather than what Skyfall is, the name of a house

Contributed an article to HUBPages about my favorite James Bond theme songs. Hardly anybody wants to pass on contributing their "two cents" when it comes to anything James Bond related. When I saw your discussion, just had to come and leave my paw prints. I agree with you about Adele. She may be a newcomer but ma gurl instantly earned her place right next Shirley Bassey when she performed "Skyfall"!

I don't remember if I thought it was long or not. It is one of my favorite Bond's, though.
