Three grandmothers

When I was younger, my siblings and I would always visit an old woman we called "Lola Maria" (Lola in the Philippines means "grandma"). She let us have sleepovers in her humble place and usually cooks noodles for us the next morning. Even then, we already knew we were not blood-related. We just knew she is also our grandmother. When she had to leave the cafeteria where she worked and lived, my parents took her home and treated her as a real family member. She stayed with us for 17 years until some people from the social welfare development decided to take her and took her back to her province. She was 89 then, they felt it was best that she spend the last of her days with her biological family ( cousins). She resisted because she wanted to stay with us, but of course her real family also wanted to be with her. As fate would have it, the transfer finally happened. To everyone's surprise and delight though, she reached 95 years old before she finally went home to her creator. In those 6 years we were apart we made several phone calls with her and each time, she always cried happily from the other line. She'd be 99 this May 28 if she's still here. I miss her though. My grandma from my mother did not live long enough to see us. Our grandma from my father just passed away just a few weeks also after Lola Maria died. We were just glad that she was able to spend the last of her days with us. Now, I don't have any granda anymore. But still I feel blessed to have three grandmothers and I love them all. Hello to all grandmothers! :)

That seems very harsh to take her away from you when she'd lived with you for so long. I'm glad you have some lovely memories of her.

@dudibelles Unfortunately I'm not a grandmother as neither of my children have any of their own. I do have lovely memories of my own grandparents.

@jaboUK I see. I'm happy that you still remember those memories. I think the heart does a better job at remembering than the mind sometimes. :)

@jaboUK When you told me about your age it just sparked something in my brain and I felt like sharing something about my grannies... :) All of us (family) have clear memories of her and we still talk about all those good and sad memories sometimes.

That's true. :) Perhaps I was given three because I never met any of my grandfathers. I still consider myself blessed though. :)
