Poetry - do you like to WRITE it?

Do you like to write poetry? Have you ever had a poem published? I had one of my poems published in a local coffeehouse book, and some others in a community project book that came out when I lived in Los Angeles. I haven't had any real fame from it, just a couple poems here and there, published in small works that nobody's heard of yet.

which do you think is better, falling in love poetry, or poetry by someone who's been hurt? which is more emotional, love or despair?

You should offer a sample and people can see if they like it!

Thanks for the advice - I didn't know of this resource, but I will be sure to check it out this year! I am not expecting to get rich off my poetry. Basically I want to see it in print for my own self-gratification, to know that something I wrote is going to be read by others. :)

Yes I do like to write poetry and I have been published in a few small mags. Although lately with this trying to make money on the internet I have not been able to think about creative writing. I would like to start publishing some stuff online. but right now I really need to make some money or I may be writing from the confines of a card board condo. But I do believe that writing can really help one see more clearly what it is that is inside the heart. And I hope to get back into writing more very soon. Writing on this forum also is good. Tim

I think you should use that line in a poem about the struggles of being a writer. "I worry I may soon be writing from the confines of a cardboard condo" or something like that !

I like writing poetry when i feel inspired but i haven't had any of them published. I'll share here one of my 2 poems in english (rest of them are in my native language - romanian): - Let the angels for you pray - Scattered glass thru my existence Stepping right in front of me, Guidance to my life ambitions When there was no one to see; You gave life from your own beeing, And you walked along the way; Mother, sister, child... oh, woman, Let the angels for you pray! I wrote this poem some time ago, let me know what you thing about it.

I like your poem :) I didn't know you were from Romania. How would you say this poem in your language, I'm interested to see how it'd be written.

You should read some Edgar Allen Poe, he writes poems and short stories. In the "Fall of the House of Usher" (one of my favs.), it is like the movie "The Rocky Horror Picture Show", the guy is sleeping with his sister, and he's got all these mental problems, and she's dying, and I guess incest had been in their family for generations. It's kind of hard to understand the first time you read it, but eventually it makes sense. I think it's a very good story (and yes, incest is wrong and sick, but the story is more than just about that, and it's a good story).

I love writing poetry, and have had one book published but never got anywhere with it, except broke for paying for the publishing of it. I read recently that they are con artists.

I like to write poetry. I had two poems published years ago in a national goat publication. It was exciting and a bummer at the same time. I submitted the poems and they never even acknowledge it but they appearred in the publication. Fortunately, a friend noticed in her copy so I actually looked and took note. That was the first one and I don't know why I sent them another but I did. They didn't pay for either but I did have the satisfaction of knowing that many thousands had read my poems. One year for Christmas my mom had my Uncle print up a nice little book full of my poems. It was a really nice thing for her to have done.

That is nice, what your mom did for you. Sorry about the disappointment with those poems. I've had a lot of problems with poetry.com in that aspect, they want money to publish my poems, and you have to buy this book that's like $65.

Sometimes it is easier to put things into poetry or prose that you can't say to someone else, that is true.

I enjoy writing my own poetry and song lyrics. Its a way to vent the torment, the happyness, the sorrow or the passion that lies within the soul at various moments throughout my life. Its a very good feeling to just get it all down then read it over in the end, even if nobody else gets to see it. I dont think about getting my stuff published really, i might do someday but at the moment im quite content as it is. Poetry is the music of the soul

I have always wanted to get some of my poems turned into songs. I had one called "Always in the Morning" that I was working on in California (this was like 5 years ago) but I lost my book out there, and a friend of mine & I were working on turning it into a song, but never got it finished, unfortunately, and I can't remember it now... :(

I love poems and enjoy writing them, here is one of my fav ... FALLING IN LOVE… You know you are in Love… When you see yourself smiling all day unconsciously…. When things you disliked, starts getting your appreciations…. When you wait for the first ray of sun to see him again…. When you start taking hour to dress up and get ready…. When you keep looking at the phone at intervals, to hear his voice…. When you say you don’t mind him talking with other girls but actually boils inside at heart when he does…. When your heart skips a beat when he touches you by mistake… When picking an outfit for a jog takes hours…. When you keep looking into the mirror for long hours…. When you heart rate increases as stands next to you…. When you cannot stop talking to him on phone for hours…. When you start eating food you never liked before, with him…. When you get up in middle of the night, dreaming of him…. When you feel that life is so perfect and that you are walking in the clouds…. When you would not mind to go an extra mile for him…. Love is when you realize that.... You want to spend the rest of your life caring for him…. You want to be near him no matter what…. You want to share both your happiness and worries with him…. You want to be the mother for his children… AND WHEN YOU WOULD NOT MIND WALKING AROUND THE WORLD BESIDE HIM, WITH HIS STRONG ARMS AROUND YOU….
