A colleague who came from the USA invited us fellow part-time clinical instructors, to celebrate her son’s birthday today, in a hotel just 2 kilometers from our house. 5 o’clock, that was her invitation on face book. We all said yes. But unexpectedly, I will not go. My son has an appointment with the driving school at 4PM. Although I want to see my colleague again, I can no longer meet with them. The reunion that was planned is not materializing again, in my part sure the rest will be there, but not me. Being alone again naturally is already normal for me. I instructed my son anyway, to bring along his 2 mobile phones so we can communicate with each other while I am alone at home. Can you give up an appointment you previously agreed to attend to?

Yes, because the situation calls for it . I won't compromise the house just to attend that friend's son's birthday party . Its safety is far more important .

I give up appointment with friends sometimes if there are other more important appointments to attend to. Why didn't you go with your colleagues? You will be left alone in the house anyway. You can still keep in touch with your son even if you are in the party.

security of our house was my purpose of not going. i can still communicate with my son through texts, but i cannot leave the house without anybody left.

Yes and i do it often because of my clients. Though I don't wish to give up, most of the time I have to.

yes especially maybe, if you have an appointment more important than the previous one that you would not attend anymore.

it is already natural for me to stay alone at home when my son goes to the city for errands.

but maybe if the invitation concerns about your profession, would you still turn it down?

Sometimes things happen and your friends should understand that you could not be there.

I don't really understand why you can't go, unless you have to take your son to the driving school?

@ridingbet You have to make sure someone is home all the time? Wouldn't the dogs act as guards?

@jaboUK the dogs are so unruly. they bite and chew at anything their teeth come in contact with. that is why our house is like the house resided by dogs and not humans.

I think my curiosity will win and I would attend if I were you. It´s nice catching up with them unless they have changed a lot.
