Monetized Content

My myLot browsing has been disrupted a little more than usual by a Tip of the Day 'feature' that slots itself in between the end of a post and the first Response when browsing the site on my smartphone. As the whole point of any ad on myLot is to collect $ that are distributed between myLot's interactive user base, I thought I'd read up on Carambo.la (yes, that's their registered website!), the outfit responsible for this monetization platform. Unsurprisingly, they think their platform is less intrusive than other systems: "... newly balanced environment that will encourage less intrusive ad formats...". Well, they would, I guess, but compared to what, I wonder? Interesting to note that the carambola is what I would call a "star fruit", that's a cross-section of one showing to the top-right of the Carambola logo above, which does a rather cool thing on myLot if you click on it - try it!
Carambola is a publisher-focused, cross device interactive content monetization platform. Through original premium content that we create in house, and our advanced page analysis, we offer contextual and monetized content units such as Trivia, Bios, Did yo

At first I'm uncomfortable with it, but later on I used to it.

I haven't had 'Tip of the Day' - I just get the quizzes. I did a few of them as I thought it might help the site, but as you say, they are intrusive.

Quizzes appeared on my laptop Chrome, but definitely "Tips of the day" on the smartphone, as you can see in the image here... strange.

I see quizzes in Spanish. My IP address always shows me as being in Peru. IDK why, though. I finally went ahead and blocked it on my NetBook. It took up the entire page. I had to keep scrolling above it to see what the start of the discussion was about and then scrolling below it when I needed to see how someone was responding on myLot. Very annoying! I sometimes get quizzes on my full size laptop and sometimes get tip of the day on it. I wish I knew why.

@pgntwo I don't go to myLot on my phone... That aggressive cookie keeps attacking my phone, so I quit trying to myLot using it. I LIKE my phone! Yeah, I can usually fool people with my ostrich impression... burying my head in the sand, but I understand what you mean, all too well. It is sad!

@DaddyEvil Who'd've thought a cookie could be so awful? And the term 'sandbox' is brought to mind by your ostrich comment. Boys and their toys

@DaddyEvil I have it blocked on the laptop, but not on the smartphone - too much hassle on Android. As for the body parts, the sanitized stuff is not real, you are right. There is, alas, a thriving underworld where such material is all too real. Mankind's inhumanity truly is boundless.

@pgntwo this new intrusiveness would duscourage me from scrolling on down to the responses. It doesn't, but it could .

I agree, it is a distraction most intrusive, hogging valuable real-estate on my diminutive smartphone screen. Verily, a squatter, it is.
