Smell of Success

Sometimes I marvel at my incapacity to reach a goal . . . I can see the red tape, I can hear the crowds roar, I can visualize the spray of the Moët Champagne . . . But still I fall one step short.
Why oh why!
In the story of my life I have never favored competitions much, as I don't like to beat friends or people I love and like. I always hold back .... Kind of open the door for others.
This personality trait seemed to ring true with me yesterday, needing just One Point to win and as many as 10 ends to acquire it in . . . But it was not meant to be. I failed myself at the most common of all failures - Big Match Tempremant.
I could smell the success but still my mind raced beyond the valley of a Thousand Hills to over think and burnout.
I decided to write it down, put it behind me and move on today with a plan of positive action. There lies a new competition in wait for me this Saturday, so I had best be prepared.
Have you ever gone the distance and let yourself down in the last moments?
Please tell me there are others out there?

I was not familiar with "Big Match Tempremant" so looked it up.
is the ability to perform well under enormous pressure. This is typically the case in most professional or amateur sports
Is this post all about sports for you? Something tells me it relates to goals life? yes, no

@Inlemay I can relate to that then and also question why somethings need to be competitive. I sometimes think it starts when people think or say it is competitive. Example of a competive thing = a job. Maybe the company would need to hire two people for different jobs and not hire others because they are a poor fit.
Or they can fight over it.

I wasnt much of a team sport player except for Hockey, I rather played badminton and tennis and now bowls. But I was a number 1 coach in Hockey as well and now I am going to go back to my Sports Psychology books to find my own problem - ha ha Self Analyse

@inlemay you are not alone. Some deep pssychological hiccup going on there that stops us pushing on to crush the opposition - aren't we sweet and lovely! Now about that photo - depending on how I look at it the object in the distance is either a wind turbine or an ostrich - do enlighten me.

It used to happen to me all of the time. However, short of reflecting your mistakes and changing things up, there's little you can do. The best advise, is not to give up and not be so hard on yourself if you do fail. Each failure only makes you stronger and grow as a person.

I don't think I am very competitive, at least not in sports. I lik do my best, but rarely am one to finish first. That said, last year I took several first prizes in quilts at our local fair last autumn.
