Did you miss me?

I was only on here for a little while yesterday. Some days you just need to step back and see what life has to offer. Yesterday was one of those days. There were things I needed to catch up on around the house and I am glad I did catch up finally. We had beautiful weather for most of the day. We did manage to get a few showers last night and we really do need rain, lots more rain. We had asked the pool store we use for our water testing and chemical purchases to set up an appointment to change out the sand in our filter. They qutoed a price of $300. That was two weeks ago. My husband called again and no one ever called back. I don't let moss grow on me so I had my husband call a pool instillation company Thursday. The owner said the cost would be $200 and that someone would be here Saturday. Surprise, surprise - two men showed up about 1 pm. That's a messy job. They use a shop vac to suck the old sand out of the filter and empty the sand into 5 gallon buckets. Then the sand had to be dumped into a trailer so that my husband could dispose of it in the woods. Luckily we have enough land to do so, not sure how folks in a city situation handle that. Perhaps they have to pay extra to have it hauled away. The sand is white and should be white...the sand in our filter was beige. They have to cut some pipes and they took the whole filter out into the yard and hosed it out and then re-installed it. It was quite a job. Within a few hours we could really see the difference in the water - it was much clearer. I am curious as to how it looks today. I have not been out yet. I know how my husband takes good care of the pool, but we don't know how the previous owners took care of it for 4 years....we heard that they didn't do much to it. Another project finished, nothing else on the horizon for a while. For now we'll just enjoy this summer weather. Photo: pixabay.com/en/summer-holiday-holidays-recovery-1403071/

It pays to act quickly and call another company. We had a problem with our heating system. The previous owner of the house did not take good care of it, we had to change all the water filters and also the main heater.

@AbbyGreenhill Yes, if you own a house there is always something to fix.

@LadyDuck The funny thing is our pool is two years older than the house.

There are not many pool stores around so it took my brain a while to think 'pool installer'....there is always something to fix or replace.

We will be mid-high 90's by the end of the week. As long as the TVA doesn't run out of power no problem.

Right now seems to be a good time to take a dip in your pool! Some businesses know how to run their company. Others not so much. Glad you got the pool fixed up. As for getting off the site, I get to do Thursday and Friday. Those days are my 'disconnect' days.

What do you do on Thursday/Friday then? No dips today, it's raining.

@AbbyGreenhill I stay away from the computer and my phone. I read more books than usual or catch up on my training. I also do most of my household chores and errands.

There is something so satisfying about getting the big jobs taken care of. We don't have a pool, but even changing the furnace filter (or air conditioner) can make such a dramatic difference.

The problem around here is getting the person/people to do the job. So getting it down within two days of the phone call is a miracle.

@AbbyGreenhill my cut phone wire was reported Sunday night and repaired before noon on Monday. My missing internet signal was reported Monday and repaired on Thursday. Now everything seems to be working as it should.

Friends of mine had a pool and there was mold growing on the bottom of the water. They never cleaned the pool. No one wanted to swim in it and they wonderd why.

That's not mold, that's algae, which comes in any colors. I sure wouldn't go in if it looked like that.

Well, you saved yourself money there! My husband used to be a public swimming pool manager and he says he'd never own a private pool because of the work. Good on you for getting an expert to check it!

Thankfully since my husband had had a pool since he was a little kid he knows the ins and outs but this probelm was more than he could handle himself at his age.

As you said sometimes you have to take care of life. Guess the first company didn't want your business after all, bet they kick themselves that you went with someone else. And saved money to boot, good for you, have a great Sunday what's left of it.

Unfortunately, we will have to continue to use that pool store, it's the only one in an hour's ride. But they will know that we used someone else for the sand...we'll tell them and tell them why.

@AbbyGreenhill Not to mention you not letting the other business think they can promise to do a job then come when they feel ready, not when you agree with them to come over.

I'm glad that the pool is done. I wasn't here a whole lot yesterday. It was my mother-in-law's birthday on Friday, and we had a surprise party yesterday. We were gone pretty much all afternoon. We left around 12:30, and only got home around 7:30. It was fun. It also gave me some time from my lot. I sometimes need it.

A birthday party is a good reason to not be here! We all need to do other things.

The water was finally chemically, but it just wouldn't clear up like it should especially the deep end. Now I hope no more complaints!

@AbbyGreenhill There are times that we cannot be here because others things have to be done. That is understandable.
