I was only on here for a little while yesterday. Some days you just need to step back and see what life has to offer. Yesterday was one of those days. There were things I needed to catch up on around the house and I am glad I did catch up finally. We had beautiful weather for most of the day. We did manage to get a few showers last night and we really do need rain, lots more rain. We had asked the pool store we use for our water testing and chemical purchases to set up an appointment to change out the sand in our filter. They qutoed a price of $300. That was two weeks ago. My husband called again and no one ever called back. I don't let moss grow on me so I had my husband call a pool instillation company Thursday. The owner said the cost would be $200 and that someone would be here Saturday. Surprise, surprise - two men showed up about 1 pm. That's a messy job. They use a shop vac to suck the old sand out of the filter and empty the sand into 5 gallon buckets. Then the sand had to be dumped into a trailer so that my husband could dispose of it in the woods. Luckily we have enough land to do so, not sure how folks in a city situation handle that. Perhaps they have to pay extra to have it hauled away. The sand is white and should be white...the sand in our filter was beige. They have to cut some pipes and they took the whole filter out into the yard and hosed it out and then re-installed it. It was quite a job. Within a few hours we could really see the difference in the water - it was much clearer. I am curious as to how it looks today. I have not been out yet. I know how my husband takes good care of the pool, but we don't know how the previous owners took care of it for 4 years....we heard that they didn't do much to it.
