Pub Sign Study - The Seven Oaks Spoof sign – Manchester

This silly sign is often presented outside Manchester’s Seven Oaks pub in the city centre Chinatown district. It invites women to dump their boyfriends and husbands in the pub with money for beer so the ladies can shop in peace. I rather like the idea of a pub being a crèche facility for adults though it could be seen as sexist to assume some men don’t enjoy shopping. I do. Arthur Chappell

I think that if you have a thin skin everything could be considered sexist. Nothing is universal....I am a woman, I rarely shop for the pleasure of shopping. I consider it a necessary evil.

@arthurchappell if there is a long queue, I have to be desperate, or I wait for another day. I don't do queues well.

I'd love it if my girlfriend would deposit me at a pub while she shopped.

Love this one - I actually took a photo of the same message at a German themed pub in Clarens in SA. Brilliant - I mentioned it to my hubby - he just gave me a little look . .

There used to be a similar sign outside The Railway and Linnet near Middleton Junction. I noticed a while back that it had disappeared. I'm beginning to suspect accusations of sexism may have been responsible!!!

@WorDazza these kind of signs are often dulicated by different pubs - impossible to trace who used them first
