Tomorrow morning my husband and I have a newcomers meeting in this new 55 plus community we just moved into. I was told we both have to get up and tell a little summary of ourselves. I hate talking in front of people I don't know.
I had enough speaking when I was a teacher for cosmetology and then when I became a store manager for Home Depot. I had lots of meetings I had to attend every month and some I took part in organizing them.
If I wanted to speak I would have stayed working.

Within the houses there is a big club house and there are activities all the time, all week and some people run different things in it. It is a Home Owners Association. We didn't have to join but that is one of the reasons we moved here. I want to get our and do things and make new friends. We met some in the pool the other day so now we will meet more. They have refreshments and fun. So I am told.

It is a 55 plus community and there is a Home Owners Association and they have all kinds of activities, including dances, dinners, trips, etc. They are always looking for new people to be involved. Hopefully we will meet some new BFF's.

@MGjhaud The meetings are held once a month for the entire community and they have outsiders come in to talk about things going on in the town. There are activities everyday if you want to attend. It is a good way to meet the new people and in the same building is the gym, game rooms, card rooms, and many other things and the huge pool is right outside. If it is nice out people can stay and use the pool or any other activities that are offered.

I love speaking in front of the people, especially those I don't know. Wanna switch places?

Sure. I did enough of it when I worked and that part of my life is over.

I would never do well in that setting, not into meetings or following all their rules.

I only do what I want to do, I am never pushed into anything and my husband knows that too. If I like something I will go and do it but if I don't, I will stay away and I have no problems saying I don't like something. I hate cards and will never, ever play them. Many people have tried to convince my but then I get really stubborn and stay away from those people.

@ramapo17 I have heard good and bad things about that type of community. I guess for some it is the right way to go...hope you like it.

Don't worry, I bet it will be a short talk. Nothing more than a few lines. At least, you'll get to meet new people.

I agree with you @jaboUK. There are so many activities and daily things going on, almost like going on a cruise. We do not have to do everything and I am sure when they see we are not interested in certain things they will leave us alone.
On the other hand if we do like something they will not be able to get away from us.

Me neither. I did my share of it during all my working life. Now if I don't want to I won't.
