As you recall, my dental appointment at the FREE clinic was scheduled for yesterday. The appt. was for 1:15 and I left the house at 11:40 and got there at 1:10. I get to the door of where I was suppose to fill out paperwork and there was a sign that said CLOSED FOR THE DAY. Are you kidding me??? I was pissed. I walked over to another area where 3 women were to ask what was going on. Not ONE of those 3 women asked if they could help me and I stood there for 5 minutes. Now I'm fuming. I went back to the front of the building to the receptionist and asked her where the lady was that was suppose to take my paperwork. She said the lady was gone for the day and I said, "You mean I drove 1 1/2 to get here and she couldn't have called me?" About that time, 'the lady' walked through the front doors and the receptionist said, "That's her." I walked up to her and she could hardly speak and she said she had 'forgotten' our appointment. I told her I didn't care what her problem was but we were going to do the paperwork. We went to her office and I managed to be approved. I said now where do I go for the exam and x-ray. She said in the building across the parking lot. I get there and have to fill out more paperwork and was told that instead of it costing me $91.25 (with the discount), it would be $108.25. I see the dentist and she says it looks like I have pre-cancer cells in my mouth on the left side of my cheek. Then says, "It looks like you need all 10 teeth pulled." I said, "No sh*t." Then she says, "After we pull all 10 teeth, you'll have to wait for 8 weeks before we take an impression and then another week before you'll have your false plate." Are you kidding me????? Then she hands me what it will cost $1,356.75; in advance of the procedure. $75 for each tooth and $606.75 for the plate. Not to mention the additional 2 more 3- hour round trips to get there. So much for a DISCOUNT. I was fuming all the way home; which was 4:00. So in essence, the whole day sucked.

Sorry to hear about your rough day. It's such a shame that they can't put you on some type of payment plan. That's a lot of money for someone to come up with out of pocket. I wish I had the money to send you, I feel horrible that you can't get the services you need without breaking the bank.

@nanette64 Well, if I happen to swing by your street corner and see you out there holding a jar, I'll make sure to make a considerable donation. Well, not too considerable, I'm a poor man myself! But I'd contribute something! lol

Thank you @moffittjc , I appreciate your sentiment. Like I told @Corbin5 , it's time to stand on the street corner with a jar.

there was a sign that said CLOSED FOR THE DAY. That reminded me of the Sunday when my pregnant wife (in her 8th month) was asked to meet the doctor. We had specifically asked for the appointment on Monday but the doctor said she would be away on Monday to attend some conference and as such, the Monday Appointments were to be consultations on Sunday. And when we reached at 12:30 pm (the appointment time) we were told the doctor had not arrived and she does not see patients on Sunday. One of the times when I was real angry and upset. I am shocked reading how expensive medical treatments can get and at the end, again, there is no assurance or guarantee that you are going to be cured. Definitely a bad day. And I might have returned home thinking, it is better to have cancer that get into the mess these so called Doctors create.

@nanette64 It is certainly disappointing. I mean, when I was growing up, I always was told that US is one of the best places to be for Doctors, Researchers and it is because of the wide rage of opportunities they provide them. Even my own cousin uncle is a Doctor there in the US Army. But as I read about the pains and agonies of the patients here at MyLot and even elsewhere, it really makes me feel sad - somewhere I feel that most of the doctors are all alike. They may have all opportunities but they still lack the heart and people who were supposed to be the Next to Gods (as for saviors of life) seem to be chasing money only forgetting the main purpose of the Profession.

What's 'free' about those costs? I will tell you - go to a regular dentist and the cost will be 10 times that - or more. While not free those costs are reasonable compared to other places.

@nanette64 Not all do - they take what insurance pays and then you pay the rest before you get your plate.

At least at a 'regular' dental office, they'll take payments @AbbyGreenhill ; these guys don't.

Can't you get a second opinion on the state of your teeth before you plunge into such a costly adventure?

Just looking in the mirror and seeing 'black' teeth, receding gums and broken off pieces is enough @MALUSE .

I don't like dentists either @ModernDayWriter . Especially the part where they use needles to inject Novocaine into your mouth to numb it.

@nanette64 Don't tell me that you'd prefer to be operated on without an injection first?

That does not sound like much of a discount to me. All the way there and a sign on the door saying closed for the day really now what kind of dippo service is that.

Oh girl, I was so mad. And it makes me madder when I have dental coverage (supposedly) with my Medicare and secondary insurance BUT all they pay for is cleanings and yearly visits. What the hell is that? Extractions are a true, health issue. I guess the insurance would rather pay $10,000 or more for me to be in the hospital for a heart attack @Marcyaz . Now that's common sense for ya.

That is awful! It hardly sounds like a discount to me and that place doesn't sound well run at all!!!

While standing at the one window expecting some help @Lolaze , I noticed the entire waiting room was filled with Mexicans. I'll bet their stuff was free. And when I went to get the x-ray & exam, the same for the entire staff and those in that waiting room too. I'm not a prejudiced person, but seriously?

I would be fuming too!! That is disgusting. If it's not bad enough to have to go to the dentist... where does the free clinic part kick in??

If I had the guts @hostessman , I'd yank those suckers out myself. Where do these people think you're suppose to come up with that kind of money in advance? They refuse to even take payments.
