Steely Dan, a band I would still love to see

I skated through the 1970s and early 1980s listening to jazz and avoiding the pop music of the time since I did not like the BeeGees, Abba or any of the disco flavored stuff that was played endlessly on commercial radio. Somehow though, I mostly missed a band that I love to listen to now, Steely Dan. I even have a Steely Dan station on Pandora. When I saw that they were touring again, I checked the schedule, but they will be nowhere near Oregon. I really like their jazzy arrangements and progressions and quirky lyrics. They never hit number one in that era, but "Rikki, don't lose that number" made it to number 4. That song and Reelin' in the Years" were big hits. Their album AJA is double platinum, meaning it sold over two million copies. Here is a favorite of mine: "Deacon blues" Image is Pixabay Public Domain

"Agents of the law, luckless pedestrian." DANG what an opening line. I love "Don't Take Me Alive," too (obviously!!)

I am a big jazz fan, yes, but also love folk. I am sort of trying to find some other retired men and maybe woman to start singing folk songs from the 50s and 60s, kind of like the Kingston Trio.

"Deacon Blues" is my favorite "hit single" of the 70s. What an incredible song!!! BTW, you didn't really miss them in the 70s....they were notorious for never touring in the 70s.

Steely Dan was one of my favorites, too. But I also like the other bands you mention that you didn't like. Back in those days I didn't like country music at all. But today much of the newer country music reminds me of the rock and roll of the early days.

I was born in Texas and listened to far too much country music as a kid, so avoid it as much as I can.

@JamesHxstatic When I was growing up there was very little country music played in our house, but I hear enough of it outside the home. I can remember being very disappointed when my favorite radio station (KGA) decided to switch from rock and roll to classical music then shortly thereafter to country music. Speaking of radio stations we had one here called KNEW and I can remember when they changed their call letters to KJRB. From what I heard Danny Thomas bought the station along with one in Seattle. That was when the call letters were changed. Something to do with him wanting the call letter of the Spokane station to be similar to the one in Seattle. I like the KNEW call letters. This station also went to country music not long after the call letters were changed.

Great choice. Jazz and blues mix at its best, yet with a pop/rock feel. Yes, that is a group still worth seeing
