Remembering Those Great Early Horror Flicks

I write retro movie reviews on The Daily Voice News site and have been concentrating on the old horror shows. There are so many good ones that have superb acting and directing that we will never forget. I reviewed some of the old classics like The Birds and Psycho by Alfred Hitchcock and other greats like Carrie and The Exorcist. I love these iconic films and don't like horror films with too much gore or blood. Some of the old ones had an excellent and compelling storyline that kept you glued to the events on screen. I still love to have a hide-behind-cushion though, especially if I'm watching a new one and don't know what will happen. Do you like horror films or do they scare you too much? The truly "old" vintage horror classics are from the 1930s: Bela Lugosi as Dracula, Boris Karloff as Frankenstein, Claude Rains as The Invisible Man, The Mummy then 1940s with Lon Chaney as The Wolfman.

@jaboUK Good old Christopher Lee and that series of Dracula films brings back memories. He was frightening and did the job so well. Psycho was another memorable film, and Norman Bates was the motel keeper from hell.--- Lol! Many women were afraid to have a shower after that one.

Ha ha! He's not scary- it's those other more modern guys like Freddy and the guy with the mask in Halloween! I much prefer the older ones that aren't so gory and gruesome.

@DeborahDiane Yes, remember the suspense when she gets it about her witch neighbours? And then realizes her husband is in on the plot against her and her child. Great moments!

I love the old horror shows. They are classics. I'm not a fan of the new ones. They seem too ridiculous to me.

So many of todays focus on the gore and blood to hold the story together rather than a good story line.

So true- I find it a cop out and a quick money maker. That's why the old ones are so good!
